CoT at a trading post?

In my English campaign I had built up the Tobacco provinces in America (Powhatan, Chesapeake, Delaware, and Roanoke). All were colony towns or small cities, but I had a CoT expand in Seminole which was a simple trading post of 10 people for the NA continent. So I believe in the Random theory from my experiences.

A CoT at a trading post? What would happen to the CoT if someone burned the trading post? Would it disappear?

Alright. It's 1604. All of India minus Mughal Empire is mine, I have a 1900 CoT in Yanam. I have a thriving colony in Mekong with trade posts all around it. Also have trading posts in every African providence minus North Africa, with a 800+ pop colony in Table. I have level 6 trading posts all over Brazil with a 1000+ pop colony in Recife.

By question is this: Why havent I seen any CoT's pop anywhere else? I know it is random, but I would of figured I should of seen one pop up in either Table, Recife, or Mekong by now. All the conditions are right for it.

Is it because I already have had a CoT pop up in Yanam? But that would only affect Mekong chances?

What about Table? I read lots of posts of people getting CoT's there.

Just curious if any has any idea.

Thanks in advance.

The best you can do is look at the trade map and try to make sure that you are covering the important places. If your big CoT is covering China, India, and SE Asia, no problem. If not, maybe you can go up and put some trading posts in Siberia, that might give it a kick.

I'm surprised there isn't one in Table, I've had that one come up often.

In my current GC, with Russia, I'm having some problems too. I got a CoT in Indonesia very early, and it covered some of my Siberian colonies and Indonesia, but it didn't pick up much of China.

I never got the Siberian CoT. Meanwhile, I took control of the Persian CoT, and that expanded to cover a huge amount of territory including all of Indochina and many of my Siberian provinces. The problem with this is that everyone knows about this CoT, so they are all putting merchants in it like crazy. So I figure, fine, I'll just grab the default one in India, which is more remote. So one -2 stab 5 BB point war later I have that CoT, and it's now controlling much of what the Persian one had, but things are still not as good as they'd be if I had a 20/20 CoT in Siberia controlling China and Japan.

I think I play this game a little too much.

When you get to colonize Siberia, with the mixture of colonies and trade posts, a CoT over there brings in enormous revenue.

I ALWAYS colonize the province "Nathguda" or something like that. It is the Southern most province that is along the ocean and it borders China.
On the other hand you can get a CoT in Palana if you colonise too quickly, which is incredibly frustrating. Do you wait until the CoT appears and then continue colonising?

I've come to the conclusion that to a large extent it's random...as I said, Goa with its population of 6600 never took off, but as soon as I got a colony in Howrah in eastern india...bam! CoT there. I think that to a large extent its based upon distance from other CoTs. I think the problem with Goa was that it was too close to Delhi, so it couldn't divert trade from many people, whereas Howrah was across India, so it could steal trade from provinces far away from Delhi. Plus it was closer to China, which I think helped.
What was really curious was when a trade center opened up in Ciskei in S. Africa, which I've been ignoring. At its birth, the Ciskei trade center was worth a whooping 17...two more than it cost to send a merchant there! Now its up to 71...whoopee.
What was really interesting was when a trade center opened up in Havana, which was mine (Portugal) rather than any of the Spanish colonies around it. That felt good. I think it helped that I had zounds of trading outposts in North America and Brazil, in addition to being close to Spanish trade.
Just my theories.

Also

Not only do you have to keep in mind that it is random. You do, like you said have to take into effect the distance from other CoT's.

For instance, I have a 13000 Colony at Mekong, tradeposts all over, closest CoT was Yanam. Couldnt understand why it wouldnt expand into a CoT. That was untill I sent some explorers out, and what did I find? I found a 600ducat CoT in Jakarta owned by The Netherlands. So I think that explains why I didnt get one in Mekong.

Now if the damn Dutch would put a trade embargo against me already, so I could attack with CB. I mean they used to have a monopoly there, but now I do, and I refuse to let them put traders back there(Constantly putting merchants in that CoT).

I need more CoT's under my thumb! 1500d CoT in Yanam, 880d CoT in Delhi, and a 900d CoT in China. All monopolized w/ no competetion. I need more!

However, it really doesn't pay to send merchants to really small CoTs like Hawaii.

I disagree one this one with you, even when its a small COT. When you get a monpoly in it, you get one merchant each year more. The more monopoly's you have, the faster you get merchants that u can use to compete away other powers in COT's that doesnt belong to you or to regain your current monopoly's.
