Well I got CK a while back when it first came out,but due to various things I decided to uninstall it.Now with all the new patches I decided to give CK another go.Unfortunately every time I try to run the game,it freezes on 'initialising graphics' and I get a critical error which is as follows-Palette 'gfx\palette\armypalette 1 bmp not found. If I press ignore a similar 'gfx\palette..' mssg appears.Ive uninstalled and installed CK (with and without patch) and I get the same thing  . Hope you can help! Oh by the way my OS is Win XP SP2.Cheers.

That is strange because no such file exists in my install.

Okay let's try some standard things.
1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT
3) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.
4) Update your Windows, update your Video card drivers and audio card drivers. Then repeat steps 1-3.

Please run a DirectX Diagnostic:
Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.

Look where you installed the game, usually something like C:/program Files/Paradox/Crusader Kings/

In that folder there will be a folder called AVI.

Well Ive managed to run the game by installing it on a different HD partition. It seems to run ok,although I did get 1 CTD (after 3 hours of playing with no save grrr! ).So it seems there was something in the former partition the game didnt like,Ive got a feeling it was something to do with an old EU2 install.Even though Id uninstalled it and deleted the paradox folder etc  Thanks for your help anyway Castellon!Cheers!

Well my advice above holds for random CTDs as well . ;)

Ive done everything you said..and yes I still get CTD's! Within 2 hours of playing I had one 'normal' CTD,one surrender which I didnt ask for,and a save game that froze my system! Im seriously getting fed up of this!Got any fresh ideas?Heres my sys info....

You did not give all the section I asked for.

Also did you install the latest beta patch as well?
So install, then 1.04a, then feb05 beta?

Ive amended my post above. What and where do I get the feb05 beta patch? Also will I need to make a clean install of CK?Cheers.Oops double post, sry (I blame the forums ;) )

Well it looks like you are still running 32 bit.

If you have 1.04a installed you just need to extract the beta patch into the folder you installed CK to.

You can find the patch as an attachment in the sticky thread in the public beta subforum.

Well I decided to do a clean install(with 1.04a) and downloaded the Oct23 beta. But when I try to open it I get'...blah blah blah \ck_104b-23th0ct2004[1].rar' Application not found.Sorry but im a bit of a noob when it comes to software issues, what app is it talking about? :eek:o

You want WinRAR. It can be downloaded from
this site. Also, you should install the latest beta patch (Feb 3), rather than the October patch.

I'm not part of tech. support. Just a newbie to these fine games. :) Hopefully its ok if I try to lend a hand.

Did it ask you to overwrite files?
If it did and you aswered yes, then you are okay.

Glad it worked out for you.
And the date of the beta is shown in the top right corner of the main menu screen.
