Yeah hindsight tells me maybe I choose a quite easy prospect in regards to fertility.
I expect ( and hope ) that there will be some form of family dis-agreement at some point in the near future. Already Bleddyn seems to have lose the faith of his vassel, his selfish trait also points to him not being very liberal with his titles as well, also who knows if the Bastards will stay onside...AND is Rhys loyal ??? Or working with Cadgwagen the worm???....... we will see.....

I like to let the game set its own destiny rather than change things with an editor, any changes made will be continuity ie: I have updated Rhys Morgan to obviously be the younger brother of Cadwagan, they look similar hold the same family name but there is nothing set in the database, same goes for the rogue son (also Cadwagan) I found by accident sitting in the court, updated his mother to being the same as the other youngest children. I am tempted to update some names also depending on what happens.

Ok I made the Family Tree a little more understandable.
Done in order of marriage / conception
Its now done via marriage.
Also missed off 2 Wives as this Only deals with Children who have come of age (ie: 16) also does not deal with grandchildren.
Anyone interesting there is a slightly more indepth tree on the last page but its a little more confusing.

No real story update as Ive been modding a little bit , Bleddyn has gained the formal title "Loin Hammer" among other things I will reveal later right off to play for a hour or two before bed.
Story update tomorrow :)

CHAPTER 5: The Marshall of Northumbria

Bleddyn was by now desperate to unite Wales as a single entity as he looked North to his ally, Scotland. Despite an Alliance with Scotland The Duke of Gwynedd had refused his aid leaving Scotland a sprawling mass of warfare as the King Maelcoluim fought off his counts at all angles.

The Dukes Catholic faith was tested but he came out following a dream that showed him the way to perhaps not only the throne of Wales but perhaps even the throne of England ! He was also blessed with another child via his new wife Agnes of Barcelona !

basgod.jpg

The dream warned the Duke of Glynedd of the Duke of Glouscester. The Duke had claims on Welsh land as well as harbouring a feirce hatred for his father. The Heretic was also rumored to practice in pagan or satanic rituals. God had warned Duke Bleddyn not to trust the Edwin "The Heretic".

God also told Duke Bleddyn that Cornwall would be a cornerstone in English future, it also pictured the beautyfull eldest daughter of Cadoc Cerniw of Cornwall. Duke Cadoc had no male offspring leaving room for his daughters son to inherit Cornwall. Bledyyn considered her as his own but his new bride Agnes was carrying thier second child. He looked instead to his bastard son Rhirid and disposed of his moody wife Zofie. Within a week of her death the marriage between Rhirid ap Bleddyn and Aelwyd Cerniw was announced !

God told Count Bleddyn that the English future would be tied to the Duke of Lancaster, his old enemy. Duke Bleddyn ap Cynfyn sat back and waited for his oppertunity. He still also had the problems developing in Perfeddweladd. His son was getting to close to Cadwagan 'The Worm' ap Meurig and had even developed a stutter which had come on because of the stress and a disagreement with the son of the Duke of Lancaster. To futher anger the situation Cadwagan 'The Worm' claimed to have found evideince that his brother Rhys ap Meurig was infact his bastard brother ! 'The worm' continued to twist his knife and his closeness to Maredudd ap Bledyyn made him somewhat untouchable for now.

Bleddyn remembered the message from god and waited for his oppertunity, soon a message arrived from the Marshall of Westermore, Bergred Grey.

Grey's leige, Morcar Duke of Northumbria was the brother of Edwin Duke of Lancaster. He had also just fallen out with the King of England Harold Godwinson. King Harold had been so angry that he had declared war on Morcar who in turn split away from the English king. This left an oppertunity for expansion into England.

Bergred Grey had assured Duke Bleddyn that he would not attack Welsh forces occupying English land under the promise of a title following conquest.
Ever the oppertunist Count Bleddyn sent his forces into Westermore, one of Englands most Northernly provinces. The idea behind this was to grab land close enough to lay an assualt on Lancaster as well as seperating Scotland and England with Welsh purchase.
The Armys of England and Morcar Duke of Northumberland fought furiously, as this went on Bleddyn's forces led by Marshall Maelog crept in through the back door and laid seige to Westermore. As promised his forces were not contested and without a fight Westermore fell to the Welsh seige.

Within a month of Westermore's fall King Harolds forces smashed Morcar who was forced to flee leaving his lands and titles to King Harold.
Harold then turned to his brother in law, Count Bledyyn requesting the return of Westermore. Madog ap Bledyyn spoke to his father in law on behalf of Count Bleddyn and a deal was struck.
Bergred Grey was to become Count of Westermore keeping Anglo Saxon power in England, he would also solidify this by marrying King Harolds youngest daughter Gytha. Bergred however was not to forget the alliance with Wales and stayed fiercely loyal to Bleddyn 'Loin Hammer' ap Cynfyn.

Morcar however settled back and found a place in his brothers court leaving all the rotten apples in one basket, Lancashire.

A few months passed before word suddenly spread, the Duke of Lancashire had declared War on King Harold. Probably influenced by his brother Morcar. However Edwin Duke of Lancashire had made a powerfull ally. Following the declaration the duke of Normandy William 'The Bastard' claimed the English Throne and declared war on England.
The Normans were comming and they were only 5 years behind schedule !!!
To futher add to the intreague Edmund the Heretic had also laid a claim to the English throne.
Bleddyn's dream echoed in his memory as he prepared his forces to discover his role in English and Welsh destiny.

(Notes: Ok so i was going to update this sooner but had a lot of trouble with the Norman invasion. Harold was allied to the Germans who in my game spanked the living bejesus out of France upon the war declaration. This resulted in No invasion the fall of 30 % of French titles AND Harold removing the bad apples. This kinda was a bit dull as old Harold only now had opposition from the Scandinavians and the Germans were probably set up to now dominate and control Europe by about 1100. My main issues with this were the fact that the game lost a bit of its interest and the Germans looked pretty much unstopable. The games focus had moved from England to Europe and I wanted England to be the focus with my Welsh Duke weathering the storm rather than having to seek conquest. Yeh sure the game will change with a weak king but i thought the story would become pretty damn boring as I waited for some intreague !
I added some duress to the realm and forced the young German king to drop his alliance and sort out his own empire.

Also (Thanks to Llewellyn for this ) sometimes the naming can become hard to follow and Bleddyn has one hell of a family.
In Welsh "ap" means son of and "ferch" means daugher of.
So I will often include this so it can be read more easily.... ie Dave son of Jim, this way you can trace the action a bit or just read ap / ferch Bleddyn to know im talking about a son / daughter of my main character.
Ive edited the entire family to show this now so all Welsh characters of my line have ap / ferch in thier name. This has however borke the games naming AI so i keep getting son's / daughters with the same name as thier elder brother / sister. This has been a blessing and a curse as ive been able to throw a few cool names into the mix. The game was nice however and gave me a couple of out of culture sons / daughters who will be spoken about shortly. I do not want to take the story away from Bleddyn for now or it would get complex but ive got a couple of bombshell dropping Grandkids.
UP THE LOIN HAMMER !!!!!

And my save game has become corrupted, both it and the back up freeze out ><

I, for one, blame the English.

You can try pulling it open with a text editor and seeing if there's something easy you can do, but otherwise, meh, congrats on your first aar and sorry how it had to end. Can we get a map or some closing thoughts about how things might've gone, maybe?

Thanks for the support again on this, I tried re-editing the files and had 2 files set for save games so i could edit and mess it up BUT still have the game, somehow they both became corrupted which is really sad.
I am probably going to start another AAR when i have edited a little as this AAR has taught me A LOT about modding the game, I will probably go with the historically legit Welsh claim of Gryffd ap Cynan Arrbrawfraw, hes the 11 year old exile in Dublin at game start who rose to power in around 1085.

What ive learnt from my AAR:
Modding, vastly important with the welsh names + the fact the game sometimes dumps ousted Dukes as spymasters or courtiers in thier old realms days after they have been beaten
Not to be precious about characters / sibblings
Not to try to "Control" my family
Not to have such a big family

So what happened to Bleddyn ?
Well an interesting senario did take hold where the French / Germans / English heretics took a poke for England ending in it being cut into 4 segments.
Edwin as King of England with land belonging to France and Germany.
As Wales I stole a good portion of the North in the break up of Harolds rule then claimed Gwent and became the King of Wales. Old Bleddyn was 61 and still alive !! ( Must have good health score ?!) Then the game crashed out ><

Ah well, i will begin a new AAR soon ive already modded out the start for the new Welsh attack. Sorry this one went down and im furious myself :(

@...had 2 files set for save games so i could edit and mess it up
I assumed that there was some snafu with making the save - if it's from editing, you really should be able to think about what you changed recently that's causing the problem. If there's an error message, it should tell you what's missing (to go to a line number, just turn off word wrap in notepad.) If the game loads but crashes soon afterwards, there's probably some missing dynasty.

@I will probably go with the historically legit Welsh claim of Gryffd[d] ap Cynan A[]b[e]r[]f[f]raw :)D)
That's cool, too. I had a really fun game when I tried that that went a little too well: Robert Curthose was rebellious so William (my father-in-law and friend) switched England to elective law, making me king of England within two decades of having been an Irish outcast.

@Modding, vastly important with the welsh names
You only need to add those to important people you're screenshotting - otherwise, you can just write it in the aar without bothering the save file.

@+ the fact the game sometimes dumps ousted Dukes as spymasters or courtiers in thier old realms days after they have been beaten
Much easier to deal with this by f12 + "die" after some big victory - just assume you finished them following the war. Although usually I reserve that for things like executing stewards who've just stolen 3000 ducats from the treasury because they don't like my traits or insane daughters-in-law who've just killed my 20 intrigue spymasters.

Im pretty sure its not my modding thats broken the saves as I am pretty competant with it and kept 2 files so I wouldnt break one !
Ah well my new game is well under way and ironically futher in time than Crouching Tiger Hidden Bastard one.
Actually more fun as well, will post it up soon :)

Llywelyn gave me a linky to your AAR and its a great start! Congrates! The Mathrafal of Powys never get any love! My impression was they were mostly an oppurtunistic lot! lol.

Like Llywelyn, my favorite Welsh family is the House of Aberffraw, however the Aberffraw hero Gruffydd ap Cynan was in an Irish exile in 1066, you can see him in Dublin in the court. Its nearly impossible without significant modifications to get him into a position to reclaim his inheritance like he did. And the Aberffraw represenitives in the 1187 scenario were a sorry lot themselves, kinslayers!

I am very proud that Jordarkelf and Veld had updated their own mods with the largely corrected Welsh dynasties in 1066, and commend Jord for almost incorporating all of my advice in changes for the Welsh in the DVIP mode.. the improvement pack for standard DV. Because of the work of Kurek there is a new Welsh map mode which adds Ynys Mon, Ceredigion, the Breacons, and Maelienydd to Wales. Veld added that and the updated Irish map to his mode too. Jord's Wales mode is currently broken, so if you wish for a much better Wales map mode I recommend Veld's map. Though Veld has not updated generic dynasty names. You would need to update those.

Anywhose, send me a linky for your future AARs! When I getg a new computer I want to take Wales from 1066 to the end! lol.
