Im trying to decide which one to buy. Im posting here because i only play multiplayer these days and i know a lot of you have bought these games. So in a multiplayer context which is better/has more potential? In terms of what i like.... well i dont like constant clicking. I like EU because you can relax a bit. I can eat my sandwhich or smoke while i play and this is good. Im not that keen on other RTS games because you seem to spend more time clicking on stupid upgrades than actual strategy.

things i dont like the sound of:

CK
-fact you have to go on crusades or your country gets screwed up
-nations seem to be able to march through neutral terrirory
-navies sound quite poor

victoria
-micromanagement (too much of) this really put me off when i heard it
-bugs
-no retreat

PS victoria is out here now but CK not until AUG 27th.

i got both and i would definatly go with ck myself , vickie is just to much micromanagement to be good for mp

and like you sayd it ck isn't out yet everywhere so makes it though to start games now while half - 3/4 of the people don't have it yet :)
but once fully released i think ck got way more potential on mp

i've never played Vicky but i got CK since April:D and i recommend CK a lot even if i don't have played a lot due to my poor computer. Soon i will get serious on CK but EU2 forever!

CK would be a better MP game, and Victoria is a great SP game.

In CK there are no navies, you pay for transportation and there are no naval battles, but having them in would be silly if you look at it. I think MA will be fixed soon (I hope at lest) and I think crusades will get better too. Each patch has improved them, and I think they will make a very good MP game.

For Victoria, the micromanagement isn't bad once you get used to it (although because of it I tend to choose medium-sized nations), but it does tend to lead to a very peaceful world. There is an ability to retreat, so I don't know how you heard this, and I'm not sure what bugs you are talking about either. Victoria is more of a SP game.

Victoria is more stable than EU2 and I am quite sure there are no serious bugs left. CK seems to be buggy (I have ordered it but it hasn't arrived yet so I cannot confirm that), but on the other hand I expect to enjoy in much more than Victoria since Victoria was way too much micromanagement for me.

ck bugged ? i played 120years so far in my game as flandern and havent crashed once :)

You told me

Although Victoria deals with my favorite time-period, I'd have to go with CK - as Victoria have waaaay too much micromanagement, and generally have a lot of features I don't care about.

When did I tell you that?

Whatever it is, it isn't true....

It wouldn't be TOO bad if it wasn't for the POP system and centralized factory system (which seems to come straight out of a Soviet 5 year plan). Biggest mistakes in Victioria, in my opinion.

Yeah. Not only are they hell to manage - I don't care about managing them either...

CK it is then :)

Bah, I have been trying to play it for the past several days. It just isnt fun to me. Or pretty. Having no navies sucks. And having a four-page title gets annoying after a while.

Hmm... CK in SP is to me AI bashing which I don't find too fun; MP CK however most certainly is *fun* (and the question here was about suitability to MP). CK is a very complex game (much more than EU2 IMO), and the AI has a hard time (though it is not worse than in EU2 IMO) in SP. In MP the AI seems to do much better, because your fellow humans might take advantage of your AI bashing.

Perhaps it isn't "pretty", but the graphics most certainly give the right *feel*.

What would you do with navies in a game of this period? After naval transport is modified there is not even the slightest need for them (except for navy freaks).

Holding too many titles? Well, stop AI bashing and play MP. I guarantee you will not hold too many titles :D

To each his own. I just dont understand why after EU2, Paradox made a string of crap. HOI sucks. Vicky sucks. CK sucks. This is my opinion, I admit. But the fact that most of us are still playing THIS GAME justifies my position fairly well. WHERE THE HELL IS EU3 GOD DAMMIT!

This just bugs me. Johan is using his spare time to make beta-patches while Paradox has him coding boring ass games like HOI and Vicky. Jeez, just pisses me off.

I don't have Victoria (unfortunately), but after getting CK (in april or so), I have played less than dozen EU2 games. Probably partly due to the novelty, but I like the non-determinism very much, I like the dynastic focus very much and I like the more friendly and relaxed feel in CK MP:ing.

The armies going through neutral territory is a historical thingy, aswell as a practical thingy. Besides, it would be silly if king of Bohemia couldn't join the crusade for Holy Land, because Bohemia is a landlocked country. Making moving through neutral territory impossible would give huge advantage to coastal nations. Going through neutral territory gives you always attrition, so there is a drawback in going through neutral land when it could be avoided.

As the game works now, Crusading is way too beneficial that you could manage by not Crusading, unless you agree some houserule restrictions on it. With some sensible house rules on, the focus won't be so much on Crusading and people can concentrate on each other more.

CK is ok when you get used to it. Still needs some patchwork though.

I disagree that HoI was crap, I find it ...mediocre. Victoria, however... well, we can always hope they learn from their mistakes, and won't include much from Victoria (except from colonial wars, yippeee) in EUIII. :)

Johan said he thinks Victoria is his masterpiece of programming. I have the game, but as I am so hooked on CK I haven't played it much.

Atm EU2 MP is pretty much dead to me. The reasons:
1) The way every people know what events an rulers will fire when does not appeal to me.
2) Hyperteching (the reason behind that too much income from trading).
3) Certain countries always play SP (aka AI bashing) for most of the campaign and the fact that basically *all* games support it by prohibiting map-trading (more map knowledge available -> more conflicts).

On contrast, in CK
1) You don't know what events happens when, rulers come and go "naturally" and you really can't plan anything based on your current ruler (you just try to accomplish what you can whit the current ruler and wait/fear for the day he is dead and the heir takes over).
2) Technology-system is *much* better than in EU2 and it is practically impossible to hyper-tech.
3) AI-bashing is easy, but the games I've played in show very well that shit can hit the fan really fast as a result of it.

However, the most important thing in CK MP is the "fun-factor". I am not exactly sure from what it comes, but IMO the game rereally is *fun* in MP. I have laughed more during the CK MP sessions than during all the EU2 MP sessions I've played. I can't actually remember when I laughed or even smiled during EU2 session, but for some odd reason I've found myself trying to hold back bursts of laughter at 6 AM so as not to wake up the family when I play CK MP...
