I said Paradox on the box not Sid Meier.;)

But if Paradox ever gets bought out by another company or the folks who are there leave then you are probably right - there will be no guarantee of a great game. It is really the people behind the name who are a great team and not the name itself.:)

There are no things quite so effective as success to squish a good company. Then EA comes and buys the leftovers. This has happened to often or at least variants on it. Microprose was a great company for a long time but in the end even they fell to the dark forces.;)

That's so true, I used to be a big follower of Bioware until NwN came out (I didn't find the game to par with BGII) and CivIII was a joke! So I could care less who makes a game, as long as the reviews are well.

I have a feeling MTW is going to totally dominate Crusader Kings. Most people who buy games aren't frequent message board followers, read previews on a daily basis, care about internal gameplay mechanics, and like me could care less if its made by Paradox or Bioware, they just go for the graphics and how good the product is advertised. Still I will hopefully go out and buy both since im a fan of historical games. I think CK will overall be a better game though it may not sell well.

A very good review, thanks Grifman.

I feel kind of stupid now, I started a new thread in the OT forum about MTW

If the AI is not challenging, I am not sure to buy this game...

PS: Well, I am not sure the AI is challenging in EU2, but you can set yourself rules, goals or events those are challenging. :D

Then wise up and learn a lesson. If it says Paradox on the box then it is a good product with great support.:p

The EU series is a heavy breath of new life into the strategy genre to be sure. No game matches its depth.

But to say that Legion is just as good a product? Only the most blindly loyal fanboy would say so, presuming he was totally dishonest with himself.

So, two out of three (where strategy is concerned) isn't bad.

Paradox does have support in that they have a very good support forum (run by players, mind you) and they patch their games on occasion.

It's a given that EUII is a wonderful game. But to say that it was so out-of-box is ludicrous. The least they can do is ensure that the buyer gets what it payed for. That they have done, that only being the case eight months from release. Of course, who knows what 1.06 will have. Or 1.07 for that matter. So we most assuredly will have a full copy of EUII by Christmas of this year.

...Right?

If I kept deadlines like this I'd be a poor and hungry man.

Paradox deserves praise because they put out strategy games that hard-core strategy gamers like. But to say that the Paradox brand = instant and unquestionable quality is foolish. Don't let emotional loyalty to a game company play with your wallet so.

Of course, Sonny, you may have been joking. :) But this needs to be said. Often

(MTW out I mean..;))

They go gold in the US the 23rd and in UK the 30st the ROTW will follow within days after that IIRC from their site. So it'll be in the US shelves by next week...

No. MTW is already out in the US.

Legion pretty much stinks. I traded my copy for something else.

MTW has been out in the USA for several days. You can read some first impressions at gonegold.com on the forums. It certainly doesn't sound like my cup of tea. I'm happily enjoying Madden 2003, which is the best sports game I've ever played. Syberia has been a good game too, but I got stuck on a puzzle and frustrated.

Edit to link to a MTW first impressions thread.

Thanks for the link. It seems that quite some people with high end machines have problems running the game. I hope this wont be the case with CK.

One thing I've learned: I'm not able to run the game from my (retarded) PC...:( (433, 64 RAM)

1.7 Gig to install !

Most problems in laging during battles seems to come from sound cards.

You got me there. No I wasn't joking. I might have to retract my "on the box" statement and say "developed by". Slitherine developed Legion so it does not have total claim to being a Paradox product. While it is not as deep as EU II it is a good game for the $$$.

As you might tell from some of my posts there have been things in EU I & II about which I have been quite vocal and critical. So I am not kissing up to Paradox. However, for game companies which give me my moneys worth (this includes great support) I am very loyal. It will take more than one turkey of a game (hope there are none actually) to turn me away from Paradox.:)
