I just bought CK2 and the game crashes to desktop during the loading screen. I bought the game and the various dlcs partly through the Paradox website and partly through Steam.

The crash happens when the game says it's "Loading Graphics".

I've tried reinstalling, restarting the computer, and my drivers are up to date. No mods installed.

My system information:
Operating system: Win 10 Home 64-bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8500 CPU @ 3.00GHz (6CPUs), - 3.00Ghz
Memory: 16384mb RAM
DirectX 12
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

Any ideas how to fix this?

Update:

I followed the instructions:

Missing Microsoft modules said:
Please go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\crusader kings ii\ _CommonRedist\DirectX\ and run dxsetup.exe
Please go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\crusader kings ii\ _CommonRedist\vcredist\ and run vcredist_x86.exe and vcredist_x64.exe

If that doesn't help, please try installing ALL of these Microsoft modules:
First: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5555
Then: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8328
Then: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109
Then: visit the Windows Update site and allow it to apply all .NET updates/patches it wants to, for all .NET versions.

But still having the same issue.

Go to Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings II. In there, delete the folder called "gfx". Note that this is NOT the /gfx/ folder under Steam/SteamApps/common/CK2 .
Now restart your game, it will recreate that folder and fix the problem.

You also need to add ck2game.exe to the exceptions list/whitelist of your antivirus app.

Obviously disable all mods until they get updated accordingly.

Didn't work, issue remains.

What antivirus app do you use? Add ck2game.exe to its whitelist/exceptions list.

IF that doesn't help, DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK2/settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

The firewall should have nothing to do with it. What antivirus do you use please?
