Whenever i try and play the game on my XP machine no matter what scenario, country (or even try the tutorial) the screen goes blank then i just get a big CTD.
I've tried it with and without music enabled, as well as reinstalling enabled and it always happens. However it works perfectly on my 2000 laptop.

Any ideas?

Lets move you to the support forum.

Okay now that we are in support, let me suggest a few things.
1)rename your AVI folder to AVI_Back
2)Update all your drivers
3) MAke sure your XP is up to date, specifically there is an update that addresses intro movies.

I have the same problem, but I think if my screen flashing issue was fixed (see other post), this would be as well. I've noticed the CTD happening more often when I add a finished build queue unit to an existing army. My screen almost always flashes to black and then about 10% of the time I'll CTD. Also, the rate of flashing increases when I increase the speed of the game. I'm still reading all of the posts here to see if any other issues I am having are addressed but so far, the screen flashing is the only thing that is really making me crazy!!!

I haven't had any problems loading my autosave after the CTD which I have noticed others having, however I've only had the game a few days and I'm currently in my first full game, currently winter of 1940 and I'm having a blast reinforcing my islands in the Pacific and preparing to assault my neighbors in Mexico.

I'll try renaming the AVI folder tonight. I'm not using the in-game music either.

Please let us know if this works. Most likely the binkplayer is the cause...but it would be nice to confirm it....
