Pictures seem to work though, odd.

From that exceptions log the issue is clearly either Vulkan or the AMD video driver.

Mesa is up to date or at least very recent, but I can't tell about that AMD driver - is it the latest proprietary AMD driver? Arch is up to date?

Just did a system update with "yay" rebootet and this is the drivers I'm using.

While it doesn't explicitly say it with this game's requirements, in general Paradox games require the AMD proprietary drivers, not the open source ones. Is that something you can test?

I could try it yes but I don't think that is the issue since the OSS version of AMD drivers have better stability and performance than the proprietary ones. If it doesn't fix itself with the next patch I can try switching. But are you saying that specifically Paradox games require the proprietary drivers?

Here is what HOI4 says:
  • Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5850 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX470 with 1GB VRAM / Latest available proprietary drivers from both manufacturers
I think that means the game is only tested with proprietary drivers, not necessarily that it will flat out not work with the OSS ones. Perhaps @PDX_Sosanna can clarify the status of this game for us, in that regard.

My Linux experience is quite old now, I don't know the difference if any between the OSS driver you are using and the RADV one mentioned above?

If they are the same, I'm out of ideas on this one, I am sorry!

Seems I spoke too soon, it worked once. Have been crashing ever since, not even getting the log GUI thing anymore :( Seems that Windows also have problems with zooming out too fast, which causes crashes even on supported OS.

Guessing it's an issue with GPU drivers or something since it's affecting people cross platform.

Been itching to play so would be amazing to hear from someone on Paradox to see if they're aware of it.

@CavTGpink Hi! Could you try the 1.9.6 open beta patch to see if it changes anything? https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/victoria-3-opt-in-beta-1-9-6-updated-july-4th.1823373/
We have received an engine fix for a Vulkan CTD issue, however we don't have any concrete data yet if it fixes the zoom-in CTD plaguing some of our Linux and Mac users or not (our internal testing machines were not reproducing the CTD, so we can't verify it the usual way)
I'm not CavTGpink, but tried the 1.9.6 anyway to see if it fixes the harvest condition problem (There wasn't anything on changelogs?). And it did! At least for me. Thanks!

Hi!

I work in IT and it's low season so to help you out I've tried 1.9.6 on multiple Linux devices with clean installations of Ubuntu 24.04.2 and the system that I've showcased in this thread. And I'm happy to report that it seems to be working flawlessly! No issues or crashes so far at all, amazing work PDX! This really put a smile on my face today :)

Devices I tested on were a bit abnormal too so if it works on them it should be fine for others too I imagine.

Specific devices were;

- Zbook G9 (maxed out model don't know exact model name)
- Zbook G6 (same deal here)

Both of the above have weird hybrid graphics with mobile GPU's and they worked fine so hats off.

Thanks for the assist in the meantime to everyone in this thread :)

Tackar och bugar.
