Playing 1.07 Nov Beta

Playing a game in the Age of Revolution scenario as Québec. Having a problem in 1801, game continually crashes to desktop after a few days running. I have tried running at very slow and at faster speeds but I still keep getting a crash. I just completed a Grand Campaign game as the Iroquois with no problems so I don't think the game program itself is at fault. Any suggestions?

Any mods installed, or events happening around that time?

Apply 1.08?

So is this a known bug in 1.07 Nov beta then?

Not many CTD fixes from nov beta to 1.08. ;)

No mods. As far as events, there are a number of wars going on around the world and I am at war with England trying to take Louisbourg (Isle Royale). I was able to nurse the game from June to Nov 1801 by running one day at a time on very slow and pausing after every second day and saving on the 29th of each month before merchants are sent.

I have a fleet parked off Isle Royale and am trying to feed troops onto the island from Nova Scotia to keep up the seige but I notice that since September, as soon as I try to unload more troops the game inevitably crashes. This is particularly frustrating as the taking of Louisbourg is my one remaining role playing goal in the game.

Maybe it is a particular quirk or bug. There was a similar one in the aforementioned Iroquois game. In that game, I simply could not burn the English trading post in Talahassee. As soon as I burnt it, the game crashed. I finally gave up and just occupied it and took it as part of a peace deal.

Check this out. Since my last post I decided to simply give up and see if I could get the game to run by ending a couple of wars. I loaded in the Nov save game, made a white peace with Prussia leader to leader and then made a peace with England leader to leader, taking Biloxi and Matagorda in tribute for my ally France which occupied them. Let the game run from there and found it made it to the end of the year and the autosave without a problem.

But then I looked at things down in the Gulf and found that somehow, although France had been in control of Matagorda, the province was given to me (Québec) in the peace! Don't know how, the nearest I've ever been to Matagorda is Illinois!

Just to be sure, I reloaded the Nov game and found that indeed, Matagorda was occupied by France, not Québec, but somehow it had been given to me. I guess this definitely qualifies as a "bug".

I will try to play the game to its conclusion and see if I can take Louisbourg. If I can make the game run for the next five years I will give an all or nothing one time assault on the fortress the minute I land the troops there. I figure if I devote every ducat to building a huge army with massive amounts of artillery, and enough transports I may be able to do a one blow capture of the fortress and see if I can make the peace work.

Sounds like some province IDs got messed up.

Still having the crash problem once I am engaged in a war. I really don't know what to do. I am running an HP with a Pentium III chip, 310K RAM, over 70% free disc space, and recently defragged. My paging file is set to a little over double the recommended 477--mine is set at 1000.

Yet the game still crashes every 10-15 days. I have been running at Very Slow speed and saving every 10 days, but I usually can't get completely through a month without a CTD.

Quite frankly, the game is becoming unplayable, and I'm about ready to chuck the whole mess and start cutting out paper dolls.

If indeed EU2 has bugs that are causing this problem for you, then your only recourse is to apply later code. 1.08 plus the current beta does have a number of CTD fixes, although I can't promise it will fix your exact problem.

If you have access to another PC, preferably totally different hardware so different drivers, you could try installing your current EU2 version on that an dplay the same save file. If it still has the CTDs you have confirmed it's in EU2 or the save file, not the drivers. You could then apply 1.08 + the current beta and see if it then runs OK for you. I personally have run through 3 full GCs recently without a single CTD using current beta.

I stongly doubt upgrading the version will help this problem, If Andrew has not heard of this particular problem specifically then I doubt it is a bug, but my experiance outside of the GC is very limited. I would say your game has become corrupted. Either your save (most likely) or the game files.
Try a fresh game and see if the same problem occurs, if it does then a reinstall of the game is in order. Then you can take the oportunity to do as Andrew suggests and upgrade to the latest patch. Unless you just love that version and don't like one or more of the later changes, which is why I assume you are still playing on that patch.

Yes, I like this version--some of the changes that I see in 1.08 I don't care for, for example, see the recent discussion about land bridges.

As I have stated numberous times before, I am deficient in computer knowledge. Do you think that downloading an update of my drivers might help? Thanks.

Yes, it might.

Can't hurt!

The general rule is if everything is working great then leave the drivers as is.
If you encounter problems look for the latest one.
