Hey
Hope someone can help me out here...I've installed the 1.07 patch. The game continously crashes to desktop only after a few months of play. I've tried the renaming of avi folder and changing resolution settings but nothing helps - I'm getting desperate.
My specs are:
AMD 1800XP
768 mb Samsung pc2700 ram
ASUS GF4 4200 128mb, detonator 43.45

If it is a crash on a particular date, event or action it may be a game bug. Is it reproduceable? IOW can you load from a particular save game and have it reliably CTD ? If so we'll get you moved over to the Bug Reports forum.

If they are just random CTDs, and reloading a saved usually lets you get past the point where the last CTD happened, you're in the right forum and it's probably an installation or PC issue.

The crashes are random and they occur between just after reloading the autosave and a year. But I think it's just that game, 'cause I've started a new one and played for more than 20 years without a crash :D.
There doesn't seem to be a particular event when it crashes (and I've seen that at least 30 times :( ). So I guess that game is just corrupted in some way...shit happens

Yup, looks like that game got corrupted somehow.
Was it a game started under a different patch?

Never heard of that before.

I'm not quite sure if I started the game before patching to 1.07 (I know if I did that explains a lot). But earlier I've played it for several hours with patch 1.07 without encountering a crash...I've played lots of hours on a new game now and it do crash every now and then - an average of every 60 - 70 years approx. But I guess that's pretty normal :(

Looks like there is still something that pops up once in a while.
Those kinds of things can be hard to track.
renaming the AVI folder helps with some random crashs, you may want to try that if you have not done so already.

I thought that one was resolved and we were talking about random crashes in general. Also I did not know if you had switched back after it did not appear to solve your imediate problem.

Do you have an Audigy sound card?

Try turning the music off with the EU2 config program and see if it makes a difference.

I've done that already - before starting this thread. I did it because one of the mp3 files it played had a very strange, monotonous sound...I see now this could be the problem if the game only turn off the sound but still play the mp3's in the background...
I've also installed the music pack for non-north american games. But I've turned all music off - there's only the ingame sound effects.

If you could indentify the problem Mp3, you could just remove that song from the play list.
