ctd when annexing or puppeting

I posted this elsewhere without getting any help. I am a relative newbie, and have done a clean install of HOI with the 1.03 patch. I've been playing as Germany in 1936 campaign. The problem is that I get a ctd whenever I try to annex or puppet anybody, including Luxemburg and Estonia. I was also having this problem with patch 1.02.
I have tried doing this while paused and while the time was running, but still got a ctd. I have waited several years after conquest before making an attempt to annex, but still get a ctd. I also ctd if I accidently click on a german province when I'm in diplomacy mode. Is there any way to fix this frustrating problem?

The annex/Puppet thing could be a bug but I just check the click on a german province thing and it did not crash for me. So lets work on this problem first since it is easy to test.

I started a game SP-36Campaign as Germany. Click to enter Diplo mode (Far Right Icon), then clicked some germany provinces.
Result: No problems.
You are saying this gives you a CTD?

Is the above what you are talking about?

Thank you for your reply. As to the diplo mode ctd, this never occurs at first, but happens 100% of the time once I'm a year or two into the campaign.

I have a similar problem in my current game. I can use the diplomatic screens, but not to annex anyone. Selecting Annex gives a CTD for Yugoslavia, Sarna and Yemen.

But is it a bug? Compatability problem?

I have a new XP Dell, this is the so far first and only game on it

E-mail your save game to Vulture, his mail address is in his sig.
Give a link to the thread in the bug forum where you reported the problem. If he also gets a CTD then I would say it is a bug.
