I am trying to get HoI 2 to run on a EEE PC with windows XP. I have managed to install the game onto an SD card due to the lack of a cd/dvd drive on the EEE pc(and the very small solid state hard drive). I've tried running the game from the card on my other PC and it runs fine, but when I try to run it on the EEE pc it loads the first paradox video then an error message pops up stating " --- fatal error could not initialize video". Does anyone know of any possible solutions or work arounds to this?

In theory the EEE pc should be able to run it, it exceeds the minimum requirements by quite a bit and while the screen is a little small but it can run in 800x600.

HOI2 requires minimum 1024 by 768

ah ok thanks, i'll just need to get ahold of some modded drivers then.

I managed to get it working without any modifications to the drivers. I just unchecked "hide resolutions that my monitor cant display" in the display page of the control panel. It plays well, with the exception of the extra scrolling that needs to be done because the screen is too small for 1024×768, but thats most definately a price worth paying for the ability to play HoI2( and Victoria) on a machine thats the same size as 3 NDS's put together.

I'm getting the same problem on a newer netbook even than yours, running Windows 7. However, when I go into the control panel the box you are talking about is already unchecked and is greyed out on mine so I couldn't check it if I wanted to.

I have deleted to avi folder, but my max resolution is 1024 x 600. I'm not terribly bright with computers so any help would be appreciated with explanation of how to... How would one trying to get a modded driver as described above.

Thanks

Scott

I know this is a old thread but I have the same problem as Scotti Mac on my Vista laptop. It suddenly appeared today after working for years.

EDIT: I solved it by putting the colours on 16-bit. Very odd that this suddenly doesn't happen automatically anymore...
