Now the game dont work at all.
Crashes to desktop when i try to start a game. I got to chose scenario and options and when i click "start", the screen goes black and drops me to the desktop.
Also, saved games dont work either.

System
AMD
GeForce 4 Ti4400
512 RAM
1600x1280x16bit desktop
Latest direct X and Graphics drivers (Detonator)

Did you use any mods or edit any files?
My suggestion is to completly uninstall the game, reinstall, then apply the 1.02 patch

On second thought let's move you over to support, as this is not a general bug since others can play fine. let us know if the reinstall helps. be sure and get rid of all the files.
*Moved

Except you can start the game.:)

I have the same problem. The patch corrupted the whole game. If I try to start a game a CTD happens. I also noticed that in the list of campaigns the 1936-game was gone. Instead there were some incomprehensible words on that line.

I have the Strategy First version 1.00. I think the North-American version (how can I tell?).

What version of the Detonator drivers do you have?

Does the scenario name show any unusual characters or other signs of corruption?

Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling HOI and applying 1.02 again?

Look at the box?

I understand your question now. If you have SF then it is NA version. Its the only version that SF have done.
The other version is by Pan Vision and is the Scandinavian one.

I have the same problem with 1.02, except that reinstalling doesn't help.... absolutely nothing works- everytime it tries to start a game, regardless of scenario, saved game, or tutorial, the screen goes black, (it sounds like it's trying to resize- my monitor makes a clicking noise everytime it resizes, and HoI makes it click once or twice when it starts a game) and then I get dumped to the desktop. I never had this problem with 1.01 (I always ran on 1280x1024), but as soon as I updated to 1.02 it started this CTD business.

I run XP Pro, and all video drivers are updated

EDIT: I just found out that it works on 800x600, probably because there is no resizing involved

Have you tried dwon-resing your monitor in case there's something there that's causing a problem?

Also, please go to your admin event log and then report here whatever the log gives as details of what caused the CTD.

I can't find anything in the event log that's relevant.... I did find out that the game will run at 800x600, but crashed at higher resolutions. My hunch is that there's something goofy with the resize (at 8x6 HoI never resizes the monitor)

interesting...that seems to be a problem a few people have run into. What does the event log specify as the reason for the crash (even if on its face it looks unrelated) or are you getting no error logged at all when it CTDs?

Note also that some people can resolve this by renaming the AVI folder to AVI_OLD and then switching to higher res...

renaming the avi folder worked, which I find quite odd, but I won't argue with success.... Thanks

Agreed...quite odd since I can't think of anything off hand that would cause this to be a fix unless binkplayer leaves some sort of "hanging" error on exit or something, but it doesn't show up until it shifts video modes again. Maybe they'll be able to trace it and fix it in a future patch, but for now you'll have to live without those opening credits. I'm glad you're up and running again at any rate. :)

Bink player is a known source of problems for resolutions. :(
