OK, I just installed EU2 again and did the 1.07 patch. The first game I tried to play was the american revolution. The game didn't even finish loading but did a CTD. So, says I, I'll try the fantasy game. It CTD as well about 2 min into the game play.

Any idea what is going on here?

None that I am aware of, I just did the beta for 1.07 and it worked for a while in the american dream then ctd again about 1778 or there abouts.

I did put in a new cd rom the old one was bad, then of course there are the ms updates.

amd athelon 1.4gh, 40g hd, msi 64 meg gforce 4, sb live, liteon 52x burner xp, hd is partitioned 10g 30g, 20 gig free on game disk. pretty clean system. not a who lot running other than norton and stopzilla
