For those "pics or it didn't happen":

and no I didn't kill off a teammate just to get this.

Here's how I did it:
edddd armour on constantly during battle, except for Dagon
use full powered Iceball when there is no deflecting shield (the yellow protective ring around Cthulu)
when yellow shield is up use qfqfqfas (some people prefer qfqfasa but I believe this variation does a little more damage)
when being sucked (yeah lol I was sucked by cthulu at least 10 times last night... who's with me!) or the pink turn you into a cultist magick use a simple e shield to stop it.
when grabbed by a tentacle spam rq(repeat as many times as you can to spam) surround for shard ice
when faced with a mob, as they are light, use sqqqq surround to dispell them from whence they came (shove them back in the water... deep ones don't like water when it's forced onto them)
at about 1/3 life (ish) Dagon (starspawn) appears. put on your arse shields cos there's gunna be qraser spam if you are quick enough to make him cold and get the blighter out of your business.

Finally - DO NOT STEP INTO THE MIDDLE... no body likes being confused... especially when there is a large tentacled demigod looming up in your place...

My strats are similar with just a couple of differences:
I used EQDDE shield throughout the fight. Stops you being wet by the deep ones (You can replace the Q with another D if you have the trident that lets you cast A while wet).
I spent most of the fight using AAA (chain lightning) on him. Every now and then I'd spin to zap a nearby tentacle as a single shot normally forces it back into the water.
I would always stand to Cthulhu's side, in the corner 1 edge away. At this point he normally can't suck you in. If he does start to suck you in then a simple D to the face will cause him to stop as he chews on a rock.
When he summons deep ones a simple DF area cast knocks them over and lights them on fire. Cthulhu will normally suck one of them in and the other is easily finished off with AAA (remember to renew your shield every now and then as deep ones wet you).
When he fires the pink orb a quick rock shield (ED) or normal shield (E) rightclick cast will stop it.
When he summons Dagon simply throw on QFSQF (Levitate) and ASF (Haste) and run out over the water. Dagon will drown himself and you can get back onto the patform to finish off Cthulhu.
Don't stand in the middle... ever!

The rock/water shield makes the tentacle attacks do no damage. If you're grabbed by a tentacle you can either wait for it to let you go or spam some damage spells for speedier release (watch out for pink balls at this point).
The shield also makes deep ones' attacks completely useless so they're really easy to deal with.
And finally the shield makes Cthulhu's Sith lightning attack barely noticable. Just remember to refresh it every now and then to keep the waterproofing up.

It might not be the most efficient way. Use whatever damage you prefer. But once I got into the pattern I found that that was the easiest way for me to do things.

Good luck and remember your Elder Signs.

also I can't believe that Xuhybrid beat me to it... Gratz dude!
lol, thanks.

I love that idea. It feels a bit cheap though. I hope they fix his AI.

I have a strategy that'll work for everything ever.

1. Take a few attempts to figure mechanics
2. Figure out how you play and then think how you can change it
3. Mash all kinds of keys to make stuff happen
4. Victory Pose as you've just kicked his ass.

No seriously, great job you guys, interesting strategies here.
Now someone gift me TSAL so I can beat his ass myself :C
(Just kidding naturally.)

Every time I've drowned him it's because he's flown up in the air and has tried to land on me.
It feels really old-school like the bosses where you need to hit the button when he's over the X.
"When he attempts to jump on you, sprint out over the water to trick him into jumping there" :)
