I have been wondering around these boards since their very existence, and I know the culture theme was adressed at some point, stressing notably that culture would change with time, having the dynasty's culture replacing the province's original culture, or on the contrary, the dynasty's culture becoming the one of the majority of its realm.

But with all the confusion about development, Snowball, etc, I am not quite sure of what I know or even believe to know anymore.

So my questions are numerous on that matter :

1) Will there be cultures in this game ?

2) In which levels will we find culture ? provincial, dynastical, statal ( I guess that word dosen't exist...) ? I mean, as the Normans in Southern Italy, could you have a dynasty of "norman" culture, with a state of "southern italian" culture, controling some provinces of "croatian" culture ?
Basically, my question is how many stratas of the game are affected by cultures, and if since the dynastic part of the game is essential, culture of the dynasty replaces state culture ala EUII, or comes along as a third level affected by culture, which would allow for funny things (serbian, bulgarian, or armenian dynasties becoming roman emperors of a Greek state for instance).

3) How will culture be displayed at the provincial level : Will it be one culture per province ala EUII, or several ala Victoria, but in a very simpler manner then the POP thing ? This would affect religion as well of course. Again, this can play a central role in holy land, depending on the success of the crusade, and in places were there was german colonization, or Turkish and mongolian invasion.

4) This question is of course closely related to 3) : will the cultures making up provinces, evolve in time, whether through player's action or through events, or assimilated in game mechanism ?

5) Last, how will the cultural diversity of the times be represented : how many cultures should there be in Germany or Italy ? For example in France "french", which is the culture of the northern half, should be separated form "occitan" in the south, plus the Bretons, the germanic alsacians and such. But inside "occitan" culture, at the time ( ie circa 1050 ), people from toulouse or marseille were quite different. SO how to represent this diversity in places such as Great Britain, etc.

These are the questions that come to my mind so far, and I perfectly understand that you might not be able/allowed to answer to some/all of them. yet, since you are in an information spreading mood, who knows...

Anyway, thank you for reinvigoriting the boards with your bran new activity... ;)

But hopefully that is changed?*hope, hope, hope!*

Poll: Cultures

Poll: Culture Names

Remember that all of this is old as sh*t that has petrified and not anything needs to be valid anymore - but it's not as if there is anything more to discuss until the next screenie/tidbit is posted ;)

In the new screen of today, there can be seen that the culture of england is English, so that surely sounds promising!:)

So, about cultures, we don't have any new info do we ?

Nothing - apart from that English exists, which might mean that Welsh, Scots, Irish etc might be in too, possibly meaning that there might be a two-tiered culture system, with cultural groups as well as specific cultures.. (I can hope at least:))
