So, will we be able to change the randomly generated names of our empire without a mod ? I want my napoleonic empire to have Lannes, Bernadotte, Ney and others as great admirals :p

I think by being a PI game, it's guaranteed to have the ability to change ship names, I don't know about auto naming however

I don't think it'll be available without a mod, but a very easy mod to make would be creating these lists - judging by the way the uI is setup - you can create lists and groupings for Planet, System, Character, Ship Names, and Ship Classes as a 'list' and add those to your game. It wouldn't change checksum either presumably.

Why wouldn't it?
I mean you can give names to people in CK2. Change your country name.
In EU IV you can name your ships and provinces, even your colonies.

It would really surprise me if you couldn't do all that in Stellaris.

No, what I meant is changing the randomly generated names to generate the specific names I want without having to change them myself one by one :)

Probably modding.

In retaliation, I will set up a confederation lead by the likes of Wellington, Nelson and Blucher!:p
And then I will corrupt Bernadotte and destroy the Napoleonic empire in space! (Empires in Arms anyone?)
For Freedom (of Trade)!:D

Either you change it manually or you integrate it in-game with a mod.
To be clear the "mod" is likely just a list of names that you want to use, nothing more, nothing less. Because otherwise, how would the game know what names to use?

I know that a mod can do that and will likely be the only way to do it. I just wanted to say that it could be nice to have an option to change it IG while you're creating your empire that's all.

I'll bet good money you can do it with a text document in a folder.

Of course, they could add the ability to create and select said text file through an in-game interface, without the hassle of setting up a mod and remembering whether to activate it before starting the game ;).
