After the annexation of Poland, the Czech nation had lot of new responsibilities on it's shoulders. They had to manage the new land, and keep the people from rebelling against their new goverment. The treatment of the Poles was to be equal to that of the Czechs. No harsh punishment, no excesive punishments. And all of the POWs captured were released home. Some to form the police forces in Poland to keep peace in the streets.
The Czech leadership also realized it that with all this new land, it had to have the manpower to gaurd it against any enemies. However, the forces available for no where near sufficient to be able to protect all of it's borders. A decisions was made to start the training and construction of new divisions. Infantry and Armored.
A few months pass after the short war with Poland. Polish industry slowly recovered from the damages caused due to the war and production increses. The masses are kept happy as well. Lot of jobs opened abroad the new land. The allowed the Czech goverment to increase research on better tank and fighter designs. Rudolf however suggested that the national border be fortified, The Russo-Czech border. With a small military and a lot of new land to cover, some preventive measures need to take place. So construction on a defensive front along the Russian border began.
By November 1937 everything was calm. Europe peacefull at last. The only menace was Russia, the Czech goverment recognized it as a threat, so did Germany, Hungary and other European nations. But all could be done was hope that not nothing major would ever happen. And Russia was in no possition to do anything anyway, not for a while anyway. It's economy and industry are in bad shape and Stalin, with his paranoia killing of his best Generals. By the time Russia would even be ready for a war, the Czech state would be just as powerful.
On Novembr 14, 1937 elections were held. A rival party of Rudolfs' demanded an election be held to see which one people prefer the most. In typical fashion, Rudolf ordered the party to be sent for and see him personally. Only thing is, they never made it. Their driver reported 'We got lost, they got out and I never saw them again...'. Rudolf however, decided to hold elections anyway. So on the 14th a party was thrown, and some sort of ballots were counted. The outcome was not suprising to anyone and everyone liked the results anyway. People couldn't of been happier.
Another year passed without any incidents, demands by other goverments or any conflicts. The only thing in Rudolfs mind was security, security of the nation. The Czech nation had no allies, no one to come to it's aid incase of a major war. But who was there to ask? Russia...no way. 'That is the last country we want as allies' said Rudolf to his office staff. As this meeting was going an orderly rushed into the meeting room. 'SIR!!! SIR!!' excitedly yelled the orderly. 'Calm down young boy' said Rudolf, holding him at the shoulders. After taking a few breaths the orderly started to speak 'Sir, the Germans, they asked us to enter into an allience with them and Hungary!' There was silence in the room. No one moved, no one took a breath, they all just stood still. Rudolf himself was shocked, but not to show emotion and to calm people down, he told the orderly to realy a message to the German embassador 'Tell them, we will get back to them in a few hours. We got other things to do this afternoon'.
Rudolf knew this was more important than anything at the moment. But he didn't want to seem stuned or taken. And his office staff took note of that. Now was the topic at hand, what to do? Except the proposal, or deny it? 'Denying it would be crazy, this is one of the strongest and best allies we can have. With Germany on our side, out Western border is safe and we can count on them to help us when we need them.' said Otto. 'Very true, but what if Germany goes to War with a major allied power again? What then?' asked Rudolf, but he was not looking for an answer. He already knew and was decided on what to do with this proposal.
'I have decided' Rudolf said, talking to his entire staff, Otto, Filip, Marek and other goverment officials. 'We are accepting the German proposal for an allience' As he finnished, the crowd erutped in cheers.
