Since I've upgraded to 1.03 my daily balance is always negative. I've tried Prussia in a variety of scenarios as well as Great Britain. No matter what I do I go into massive debt. I've tried letting the AI handle my trade and I've tried managing it myself.

When I managed things the same way in 1.00 I didn't have these problems. Is this a bug, a modification for 1.03, or just something I'm doing wrong?

I'm afraid you're just doing it wrong.

1. Make sure that after you've made the changes you leave the budget screen before they can take effect.

2. As Prussia, you have a load of troops you don't really need immediately. Set defense spending to 0%, mil maintenance to minimum, tariffs to max right slider, poor tax to 100%, middle and upper classes to 49.22%. Set Education to max and Crime fighting to neutral (middle)

Once the autotrade settles down you should be making money. Look at your factories and close the ones losing money or missing materials. Build more steel and lumber factories and use the unemployed POPs from the small arms artillery and explosives factories to man them. Build more railroads. As the daily profit increases, increase mil mainteance up and also reduce poor taxes and/or tariff.

Comparing 1.00 to 1.03 is futile. The differences wrt the economy are monumental. Do not expect the strategies used in 1.00 to work with 1.03. Other than that, listen to what Derek advising :)
