I'm currently playing DD 1.3 with DAIM and have had a fantastic game playing against the USSR, with the latter pinning me down to a certain extent even though I've encircled and killed off most of its forces(I now have a way too high transport-points cost). What I want to know is if I could install the 1.3a patch and still manage to play the game with the new patch - or would that cause a CTD?

Another question:- Would my current savegame still work fine if I installed the Graphics Improvement Pack, mid-game? I'd like to add historical authenticity and it would be a shame to miss out on it.

Graphical changes should never cause problems with ongoing games, so as far as I can tell there shouldn't be a problem with GIP.

Telling from the 1.3a patch list I don't think upgrading from 1.3 should cause problems either. If you want to be sure just keep your savegame (and the 1.3 patch) at a safe place. ;)

I checked elsewhere on this site and finally read that GIP was compatible with any mod after all (I wish there was some sort of effective search-engine)- I was confused because the outdated readme said something about new scenarios etc. which weren't actually in the end-file that I downloaded. I'll try the 1.3a patch in the meantime - thanks.

Just wanted to congratulate you on an amazing DAIM game. I had a much more challenging Russian campaign as Germany, in the first 6 months, anyway, with this new mod. Also, the US not only did the usual Casablanca/North Africa invasion but also invaded mainland China(a puppet-ally of Axis-Japan) as well - though, perhaps it should have invaded the Japanese mainland first. The Japanese AI seems to be particularly weak, though, except, of course, in its Chinese invasion campaign, where it's ahistorically strong(given the vast Chinese population shouldn't the Chinese military outnumber the Japanese by 10 to one, or something?) - anyway, in none of my various modded or unmodded games, did Japan ever really try to conquer more than one or two US-controlled Pacific islands, and that Pacific-area aspect probably needs to be addressed.

I'm having a bit of trouble in the last stages of my current DAIM DD 1.3 game. I've invaded the US and whittled it down to 70 IC points, with most of the eastern half of the US under my control. The trouble is that I'm left with just 3 provinces under US control(one is the capital, Washington, the other is 2 provinces on the North Carolina coast), and for some bizarre reason, despite overwhelming numbers I lose each battle I have with them in a mere second or two, whereas battles against my generally strong forces normally take much longer. I used the fullcontrol function to see what made the US forces in the Washington DC province so all-powerful, and it turned out that there was only c. 9 units in the province(8 INF and one Tank), with one 3-INF unit having no leader at all - against two separate attack-forces on my side, consisting of 9 MECHS and the other, 12 (heavy) Tanks. The 19 or so US aircraft in the province were matched by at least 32 or 36 of my own, and were used only for "air-superiority" missions, not for interdiction or ground-attack. The only advantage the US capital province had was a 9-point AA-factor, which I'd forgotten to deal with before the bombing, but I will try to see if whittling down infrastructure and AA-points will sort out the problem- the province, incidentally, had no land or coastal forts at all, which is normally the only thing that cans top such powerful units.

Anyway, I was wondering if you might have a suggestion.

Did you take a close a look at the combat modifiers? That might help explain it. Or one of the US units might have insane stats due to a bug - very rare, but happened before.

Oh, and how's your org when attacking?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by the combat modifier - I presume you mean the abilities of the leaders which influence the battle?

Anyway, turns out I'd made a rather basic error. I must have miscounted the stacks, what with all the extra US aircraft etc., as, shortly afterwards, a 12-unit force from that Washington DC province then attacked and drove off my 3-unit force in Charlotteville, next door. There were only 6 units left in Washington DC province after that, which I was only barely able to defeat with a 12-unit-force(at highest possible org), so I got that province, and the 12-unit force in Charlotteville was then out of supply and easy to defeat. Would have been impossible, otherwise.

The combat modifiers - a %-value that modifies the "normal" attack and defense stats - can be found as a tooltip when hovering with the mouse above a specific unit on the combat screen. It's like "+10% for offensive leader" and "-33% for crossing a river" resulting in "74% attack efficiency" for a given unit.
