Hi all;

I am USA. Got the Torch event. They accepted. I received Morocco. Then a few weeks or days later another event fires "Darlan is assassinated". I didn't notice cause my attention was elsewhere but apparently that gave Morocco back to Vichy and I'm stuck in the cold.

I can't declare war cause they have no belligerence and I am not full interventionist. Crap!

Never noticed this event string before. Or never had it fire. I thought there was some way to go to war with them if they refuse.

Must be one of those ahistorical options kicking in. :D

But what the heck are you doing as the USA not being on full interventionism in 1942? :p

I know I made a few poor slider choices early on. I haven't played as the US in quite a while. I hate to cheat so I just live with my poor choices.

As for the event, I looked thru the events for VIC and couldn't find an Assassination event. Anyone know where it is.

Making more economically and militarily useful slider choices (free market, standing army, etc.)

The USA was not at "full intervention" at 1942 historically (except due to the Pearl Harbor event). Assuming that a player will manually move that particular slider is a BAD assumption. If the CORE devs wish the USA to be at full intervention in 1942 then they should modify the USA events accordingly to make it so. Most of the existing USA non-random events move it in the opposite direction, so moving it manually is mostly pointless as a player is wasting their slider moves on something that events will almost completely undo.

It is quite deliberate that the USA events tend to move the slider the other way, otherwise it is far too easy for the USA to get into an early war (with A N Other) and power up early, which makes the rest of the game rather ... hmmmm... shall I say... non-challenging ?

The death of Admiral Darlan is in the CORE2_death_events file. There is nothing in there that gives Morocco back to Vichy - there are alternative ways the event path can unfold, however, regarding Torch.

I agree, Tim. However, I feel that the Pearl Harbor event chain should boost USA interventionism by 3. This reflects history rather well, and isn't unbalancing (since the USA won't have a forced slider move until it's already at war). I've tested this myself in a USA game and it works okay. You might give it some serious consideration for inclusion in CORE.

Well, I think Germany should probably declare war on the US by event after Pearl Harbor. If the Tripartite Pact was signed and the US is propping up Britain economically (Lend-Lease, Arsenal of Dem, Undeclared War events). This what happened anyway.

I get a huge dissent hit to either join the Allies (5%) or declare war on Germany (12.2%), and that is in 1943 with interventionism at about 8. Needless to say it takes years to get rid of that while at wartime production and supply levels.

There is no need for Germany to declare war on the US for the US to go to war with Germany and not get hit by huge dissent. Provided you have Interventionism sufficiently high so as to be able to make independence guarantees, you simply guarantee the independence of some nation that Germany is already at war with. This gives you casus belli against Germany and thus no dissent for going to war with them.

I was making that comment from a player's point-of-view, actually. It's up to a player to decide which slider moves to make, but myself I tend to get full interventionism first and foremost playing the US. And since that's the #1 exploit regarding the USA we are countering that somewhat by events.
