What exactly can daughters do other than marry other people so that their sons end up in my succesion line ?

I can only see negative points in having a girl - not that I can do anything about it - but there a bound to be more positive things about having a girl.

They are nothing but trouble.
CK2 should make them useful by (optionally) tying certain diplomatic agreements to a marriage - so that you could marry one of your daughters to another lord to seal an alliance or something.

Well, eldest daughters get the duty event, so there's gold in them thar girls.

Also, you control their education, so you have some influence on their development. Then if they are good (midas touched, grey eminence, elusive shadow), marry them to some other courtier and keep them for your own benefit.

I also just like sending them out into the world to procreate in other peoples' realms. Even if there's no direct succession, I like trying to get my dynasty's output everywhere.

You get prestige from arranging marriages for them, which if you are a count or small duke is really usefull.

And if you have a salic law their children won't show up in your succession line.

Not just daughters, I think any and all dynasty marriages that you arrange will get you at least a bit of prestige (currently playing on hard trying to unify Wales. And then some, but once you're king you get to vassalise those Irish dukes.)

You can give some of your demense to them. They'll never marry, so you or your heir will inherit when they die. Nice way to avoid large demense penalty while making sure things stay in the family.

I've always used one or two of them to populate my courts with generations of good courtiers. If along the line I find myself impressed with the abilities of one of the sons, I tend to give them preference in the creation of new counties and duchies. Particularly if one turns out to be a good bishop, he'll probably end up being appointed to a bishopric. I always find myself in need of bishops :<

If you are an empire builder, ie get more land than you can hold yourself, then daughters are almost necessary.

This because a daughter who receives land will not marry and with the right laws their inheritance goes back to the family. So if they die soon it usually goes back to the character you are playing, while if they do die later it goes to some brothers son.

I've used this to great effect.

I ment to respond to this last week. With female succession now part of DVIP, women can inherit as well like they did historically.

Additionally, it is more challenging to play with the risk that your daughter may inherit. You have to develop other stratigies. But if she does inherit and her child and heir is not of the same dynasty name, no worries. Have her grant the heir a title then log in as him/her who will succed thereafter.
