Pointy Stick
Year 0
First men Tribe
At first nobody listened as Guto spent day after day of the summer trying to convince the people of the tribe to follow the all-maker, the one true goddess, the creator and protector of these beautiful lands. He told the people that the fact that Uru the Wolfslayer was the one who defeated the beast and he, the priest, was the one who blessed Uru, this was simple proof that the all-maker was indeed real and she only protected Uru because he asked her to. This however did not catch the attention of the people, for they were too busy looking after themselves, spending most of their time gathering food and basic shelter. Although many of them simply did not like the priest, this Guto discovered when he heard a group of hunter men mocking him. On the verge of giving up Guto was approach by a child, a young girl who asked if the all-maker was as brave as Uru, without thought he told the young girl that the all-maker was even braver that Uru and it was the all-maker who loaned some of her bravery to Uru. To his surprise the young girl then asked if Uru even had any bravery of his own, although tempted to say no, he instead told her Uru was indeed a very brave man but simply needed a little help. Happy with the answers she was giving the young girl then ran away, which left Guto feeling reassured that he would be able to convert the first men after all.
The after the Dark light and on the following Great light the young girl returned with both her mother and her siblings to listen to Guto speak about the all-maker. Seeing his audience grow gave Guto more confidence in his preaching abilities which led to him speaking of the all-maker more elaborately, and the more elaborately he spoke of the all-maker meant each time his audience left, they would return with family and friends which caused Guto’s audience to grow exponentially. If he kept up the good work he could potentially have the entire tribe of first men, who hardly believed in anything before this, believing in the all-maker.
Meanwhile Chief Uru had passed on his hunting duties to Furgur Yronhyd, so that he could spend more time looking into how he could develop better tools for hunting and killing. He essentially knew how the sharpened end of the stick worked and why it was better for killing that the non-sharpened sticks, pointy end simply made for easier piercing but then he also noticed that the sharpened stick wasn’t always effective. At times the sharpened stick would become dull and worn down or break on impact with the kill. He eventually determined that the sharpened point of the sharpened stick was too soft and needed to be hardened. He would spend the rest of the seasons and years looking for ways to improve the hardness of the tip of the sharpened stick.
Furgur would order the hunter men to spend the summer digging holes and setting stones to be used as traps, whilst they were out hunting, the holes would trap as many animals as possible leaving them helpless to be jabbed to death by first men. He also ordered the gatherers to gather as many and any berries and fruits they could find, he feared they wouldn’t have enough to last them through the winter, but even if he had gathered enough, most of it would most likely spoil before or during the early parts of the winter leaving the first men with little to no food for the later harsher parts of the winter. He knew he had to find some way to preserve the food, but how?
Alan the wanderer was fascinated by the wild ever since he was a child which is what gave him the idea to attempt to explore and give names to as much of it as possible. But he thought he would need some way of recording what he had discovered. At first Alan discovered a large cave wall nearby which he could draw on, but it would prove more difficult than expected to invent some sort of drawing device to draw on it with. First he tried using stones against the wall but he realised drawings made using stones didn’t last very long and would usually get washed away. Then nearing the end of the first summer he realised that some berries that have been squished onto rocks by children left permanent stains on the rocks. This gave him the idea to try and use mushed berries against the walls in the cave and for the most part this worked but the mushed berries were too watery and getting accurate drawings was difficult. He decided that he needed to thicken the berry mush, so the tried adding various amounts of mud to the mush and mixed it all together until he had achieved the perfect thickness. With this new device which he would give a name, he would draw whatever he found out in the wilderness onto the walls of the cave. He would spend the winter amongst the tribe before heading out the following summer

Guto’s audience had grown quite large, he could no longer count how many there were, and in addition his audience were speaking to others about the all-maker which essentially meant there were even more believers than what he could see before him. But his preaching wasn't without scepticism, and when an older man stood up and started asking him some very difficult questions about the all-maker such as can we see the all-maker, this caused the rate at which he was expanding his audience to shrink and some people even left. But he’s hopeful they will return.
After taking a winter break from trying to improve the weapons of the first men and tending to his people, Uru returned with the brilliant idea of attaching a stone tool to the tip of the stick, the stone tool was hard and was also used to sharpen the stick so it must be sharp as well. But Uru faced one problem, he didn’t know how to attach the stone tool to the tip of the stick, this would leave him pondering yet again for another summer.
Furgur would again organise the hunting party and gatherers, and send them out to get food because he himself was still injured in fact his wounds had gotten infected in the early winter of last year due the high amounts of rain. Although he must consider himself lucky seeing that quite a few people died last year due to the low amount of food they had going through the winter and the lack of heat.
Alan gathered as much as he could carry with him and set out into the wilderness at the beginning of the summer, he headed north and after about five Great lights he found himself at the great water hole, he would try and remember it to the best of his ability. He then went west for three Great lights to get around the great water hole and then north for 12 days which to his surprise brought him to an endless great water hole. Hoping he could find an end to the endless great water hole he followed it west then north for 36 days but he came across more of it, it was incredibly vast. He followed it again towards the west for 17 days but eventually gave up when he realised it could possibly be endless. He instead decided to head back south for 31 days and then east for 49 days which brought him to another endless great water hole.
With winter fast approaching and he had enough information to start filling out his map, he headed back towards the tribe, it took him 76 days to return which meant the winter had caught him on the way home. Walking in the cold partially damaged his feet which would make walking difficult if he’s to ever recover.

Chief Uru finally figured out how to attach the stone to the stick, first he had tried using hair to tie the stone tool to the stick but the hair had proved useless and the stone tool fell off shortly after it was tied on. Then whilst watching the gatherers return to the tribe he realised one them had taken the entire plant vine with the berries, and he instantly though he could use it to tie the stone tool to the stick. When he retrieve the vine, cleaned it up and used it to tie the stone tool onto the stick it still didn’t work quite as well as he would like it to. The stone tool although held onto the stick was not sturdy enough and moved about. But just before he gave up this time round he decided to split the tip of the stick open and wedge the stone tool into the stick, then used the vine to tie it in place. This did work, the stone tool was sturdily attached to the stick, but there was another problem, the stone tool he had managed to attach to the stick wasn’t pointy, it only had a fairly sharp edge. Additionally it was heavy, he would have a better chance beating the animal to death rather than stabbing it.
Furgur was able to beat the odds and his wounds had practically healed into big nasty scars, but finally this summer he could go out with the hunting party rather than send them out with orders. His presence as an extra man slightly increased the amount of food the hunters were able to catch, but would only potentially reduce the rate at which first men were dying each winter, catching more food simply won’t stop it from going off before the end of each winter and it most likely won’t stop first men from dying of cold.
Alan spent this summer refining his drawing device and his drawings, seeing that his feet were badly damaged by the winter. He promised himself he would go out again next year but not north, he’ll probably go south this time.
Year 3
First men tribe
The stone tool had an edge that was already very difficult to achieve much less to be shaped into a point. This is what chief Uru discovered when he tried shaping the stone tool, it simply wasn’t happening, he needed better stones. Whilst out on a hunt he brought back various stones to try and shape them into a point, most of them failed except for one stone he had found near a stream, a flint he would call it. Accurately using the hammer stone against the flint got him a pointy tip he could easily attach to the tip of the stick with the vine bind. In the end the stick had a hard sharp pointy tip that would surely do a lot more damage than the usual sharpened stick.
Alan with his feet completely healed would set out again but this time he went south, or south east to be exact for about 87 days, then turned and went east for 72 days which brought him to yet another endless great water hole. He decided to follow it north for 25 days to see what happens but he only trapped himself outside the winter zone, for winter had caught him away from the tribe again. Luckily he was in an area that hardly got cold during the winter. He would have to spend his winter their and memorise everything he saw for his map.
Year 4
First men tribe
Guto at this point had managed to convert just over half the tribe into devout followers of the all-maker, people were now speaking about her in nearly every corner of the tribe. His audience had grown so large other priest of his faith were starting to rise from the tribe to help him spread the word of the all-maker, all he had to do was reinforce them and ensure they were sending the right message. It is likely he would have the entire tribe following the all-maker in no time, and nothing could make this easier than lighting striking a nearby tree causing it to catch on fire whilst he was preaching..
As the winter turned into summer Alan started exploring again, he followed the endless great water hole for a total of 116 days until he was on lands that were made entirely of stone. There was no earth, no trees and no grass except for small amounts that squeezed through cracks in the stone. The stone continued on and on for what seemed like forever, Alan eventually decided to turn around and return to the tribe. Unfortunately he didn’t have enough time to make it back to the tribe and had to go south to avoid being caught alone in the winter again. Here he would stay again and wait for the next summer so that he can return to the tribe.
