God forbid implementing a DD hiatus for a few weeks to design and develop a new update. It's literally the end of the world.

Dead after a huge update a few months ago that made it one of the most played games? Are you sure?
Look, I also believe the game still has potencial and is not dead, but "one of the most played games"? Even right after the patch, the days the amount of players where at it highst, it still was less then a normal day of EU4 (without any patch in a long time), Stellaris (pre-update), Hearts of Iron 4 or Crusader Kings 3 (also pre-update), and right now it's already down to around the same / a little lower then Victoria 2, a game that hasn't recieved updates in years.

So sure, the game still has potencial, but saying it's 'one of the most played games' is just blatantly and statisticaly untrue.

Well checking 30 day avg on STEAM it's back down to 1,350 or so monthly average, Marvel's Avengers about 1,100 and CKIII at over 14,000. IIRC these number for IR's were similair to those pre-Marius. As I said at the time, and was hammered for it, it was too late to save the game from a player numbers perspective. That appears to be proven now.

But is the game dead? Nope, as far as we know it's still being worked upon, although I wonder what the reality of a very small continuing player-base will have on that long term?

As I have said elesewhere the future of this game lies in the hands of taleneted modders - AFTER PDS rework major elements like trade, diplo and improve the tribals substantially. The game as is, and after some more dev work, will provide an amazing base for modders to imoprove with UI, QOL, mechanics, and of course the huge overhauls we enjoy.

And hey, you CH obsessives might even have your dreams come true....

:)

How boring this topic is. Every week without fail this comes up. In the words of Ivan Drago: if it dies, it dies. Until then, quit with the "game ded" stuff...unless you're being humorous. None of the incessant worrying by forumites will save the game if it indeed will die.

Until that day, be it in 6 months or 6 years, just chill and enjoy the game. Post suggestions, AARs and bug reports. Talk about what you enjoy or what you don't enjoy. Speak on what you wish for or about what you think the next updates will be. Posting the millionth thread about "game population is low on Steam, game is dying / DD isn't back (despite a massive update a month ago) / game isn't represented at PDX Con" isn't original and won't do anything.

Can we stop doing these threads for every single game every few weeks?

None of us actually have access to the metrics required to determine how well a game is doing. No, consecutive player numbers don't count as relevant metrics. It's not an MMO.

For that matter, what does being "dead" even mean for a technically feature complete and primarily single player game?

You weren't being hammered for what you said, but how you said it. You're very antigonistic on these forums towards other forumites. People respond to you accordingly.

I'm not very antagonistic at all. When I said initially that IR 2.0 would not save the game in terms of player numbers, that wasn't said antagonistically either. It was much more a case of shooting the messenger because they mesaage wasn't appreciated if anything. I also went on at length to explain why I thought they way I did, and discussed other games in this context and the games industry as a whole.

I always just rotate games. I played 2.0 like crazy for 2-3 weeks and put it down simply because I can't play a GSG that long without getting tired of it, no matter how good it is. Right now I'm playing Stellaris because of the 3.0 update, soon it will be EU4 with it's next DLC. I still think the 2.0 update was excellent though and will probably pick it up again sometime in the future.
