I think this is from DVIP. This is the event that allows you two choices; to give in to demands for a loss of prestige and end of the revolt, or crushing them for a again of prestige but also the continuation of the revolt.

My question is:

If I pick the second option, will the revolt modifier in that province ever eventually go away? Or should I just give in?

There are some events that can end a revolt. One is "Dealing with popular revolt" (which you mentioned), but there are others, such as "peasants return to the fields" (giving you the option to either pay money, or have tax value drop, but the revolt will go away either way).

Personally I usually choose option A unless I absolutely can't afford the prestige hit. Revolts are a pain in the behind and it can take a province ages to recover if the revolt goes on long enough.

If you pick the second option, the revolt will continue for a while, and then the event will pop up again. If you can live with the reduced income, it is a nice way to gain some prestige :)

I'm fairly certain this is actually from DV at the very least, if not actually vanilla.

If you can't afford the prestige loss, crush them a couple of times to gain some, then give in to demands.

I personally keep forgetting to edit the event so the revolt has a chance of ending with option B as well, which makes its own amount of sense.

I usually also agree this, because I have learned the hard way that it can take years before the revolt ends if you don't accept the demands and usually it is economically too crippling to allow it to continue.

I wish that there was an option where you could use force to end the peasant unrests. I would assume that hanging the leaders and granting pardon to those who surrender would make others return to fields. Sometimes the peasant leaders were also excommunicated before soldiers came to crush them. Because outcome was usually more or less like I just described it annoys me a bit that in CK giving up to their demands is the only reasonable way to solve the situation.

Vanilla event.

If you do not accept demands, the rebellion will remain. There are several events which can end a rebellion, but most of them have much higher MTTHs than this offer event, so it's most likely to pop up again and again.
It can take several years before one of the other ones fires and the rebellion is cleared without nasty effects.

Well, "give in to demands" is really only flavour text, it doesn't actually mean that you technically make any concession regarding the reason for why the peasants rebelled. If (as happened in my current game many times over) the revolt was caused by religious persecution of heathens, it's not like choosing "give in to demands" actually prevented me from continuing persecuting them (via future event options).
