Just a simple question - although I'm expecting no response. Because for some reason in all that that happens in the world around us - asking for some info on a video game is apparently hush hush....

Eu3 - 2007? -- Euiv -2013
Ck1 2004 - CK2 2012

I could go on with HoI and Vic but you get my point.

First off - love Euiv and ck2 as for Stellaris and HoI4 - meh - seems dumbed down to me and shallow- but that's just my opinion.

Point is - Are you planning on creating a new engine for these games in the future?

Reason I ask is it will help me eat healthier so I'll live to see the day.

Long time lurker - never a poster.

Peace

Of course, they will have to create a new engine eventually. Clausewitz 2 as impressive as it is, it's already being pushed to its limits.
They haven't run Clausewitz 2 for years---each new PDS game uses a new iteration of Clausewitz. HOI4 uses something like Clausewitz 6.

This is rather an old topic. What makes you think that it's being pushed to its limits?
I don't really see any need for a completely new engine any time soon.

Technically it is Clausewitz HOI4 which is an off-branch of the Bleeding Edge of Clausewitz which Stellaris is sitting on. Then we have EU4 is sitting on Clausewitz 4(last actually numbered version) but with tons of stolen features & improvements from the Bleeding Edge version... We don't really do versioning that well when it comes to Clausewitz since it doesn't make sense in how we work internally and since Clausewitz is an internal only engine compared to like Unity or UE, why bother?

Why does Stellaris remain on Bleeding Edge when HOI4 doesn't?

oh yeah i heard about that. clausewitz 4
then clausewitz 4.somethingorother
then clausewitz 4.IDKaskjohan
then clausewitz 4.johanjustshruggedhisshoulders
then there's the clausewitz version that's just a picture of a blorg with holding the master sword from zelda
then DDRjake started shouting something about clausewitz ryukyu...

...you game developers find some really odd ways to keep track of engine versions.

Why does Stellaris remain on Bleeding Edge when HOI4 doesn't?

because real men don't bleed. ever. at all. :p

i'm guessing because stellaris has less functions set in stone (as opposed to HOI which might not benefit from every new idea, or it's just the preferred engine build to use as a testbed for new concepts. any chance i'm in the ballpark groogy?

Why does Stellaris remain on Bleeding Edge when HOI4 doesn't?

Because they wanted to do stuff in the bleeding edge version that broke the engine for other projects so they got banished to their own corner to play with.
Simplifying for comedic effect but something in that style.

They are still pretty much bleeding edge they are just on their own kind of bleeding edge and they still keep themselves up to date with the latest stuff.

Did it involve someone cosplaying as Edward?

Can neither confirm or deny

@Groogy was it something to do with the engine efficiency gains they managed to get in HOI by altering how the large data sets were stored? I distinctly recall a past dev diary promising significant performance gains from a number of engine changes.
