Here is a question, orignaly the Scottish crown passed through the femal line (or so it is believed). Even up untill the time of Bruces there were revolts in the North to push for he femal inheritence, will this get into the game?
IIRC that was the crown of the Picts, later joined with that of Dal Riada to the "Kingdom of the Scots".Originally posted by King

Nothing funny about that. It was quite common to see brothers accede to the throne after the death of a ruler - they were usually of a more mature age, with some experience to show.Originally posted by King
If you look at the Scottish Kings after Kenneth I something funny is going on there.

Alexander ll (1214-1249) was the first son to follow his Dad into the job.

I don't know exactly how the Kings of Scots were chosen in this time, but I guess it was similar to what we see in Norway in the same period - anyone a son (or descendant) of a king could become king once approved by the people (at the things). Usually the one with most force to put behind his claim was approved over other claimants, but it also depended on local support (You could have several kings, each in their own parts of the country).Originally posted by King
But its not brothers, more often than not it was son of the King before last.
Look Donald I is succeded by Constantine II. Then Donald I's son Malcolm I comes to the throne. After Malcolm I it's Indulf who is son of Constantine II. Only then does Malcolm I's son Dhub. Now Dhub's brother Kenneth II first has to wait until Culen son Indulf to have his shot on the throne. This is a very funny line of inheritance.
