The characters have always deathdates but on living characters this is set on future. And in my experience characters don't tend to die on their deathdate if the are living at scenario start.

So does a deathdate set into future in scenario start have any effect at all?

The only affect deathdates have is that character is not living if the game start date is later than the death date. It affects nothing else. In preparing a scenario it was useful to have that date to make sure you were dealing with the correct character.

:)

An interesting thing

I'm modding the game to a war of the roses scenario from 1440-1553 and since I was using the Third Crusade scenario as my basis most characters started the game 200+ years old. The funny thing is, if marriage is not 'ended' at death, the happy undead couple can keep producing heirs long after their time (talk about super Viagra!)
