Do you want to play in DEG? New player FAQ

Everyone gets one chance to prove they are worthy to play in the DEG series of games. The first test to judge wether you are a compatible player would be to answer the following questions in your application:

Do you have ICQ? If not get it.

Have you read this post carefully? If not, do it or don't ask to play.

What are your playing experience? Doesn't really matter excpet for nation placement. As long as you are polite and dedicated you are welcome.

What connection are you on? My hosting capacity allows most connections to play but we like to know.

What timezone are you on? Can you play 18.00-23.00 regularly?

Co operation
In case there are more than one player to a nation to original player functions as the Commander in chief and delegates forces/tasks/missions to the additional player as he sees fit. Trade deals may only be broken by the CoC for technical reasons since there is a potential bug here.

Victory conditions:
As always in DEG we play to have fun and explore the balance of the game to contribute to the MP community.
The game is intended to be basically Allies vs Axis, historical WWII.
victory will be awarded the side that makes the best effort by votation or GM rule.
Surviving into 1945 or eliminating an allied major, UK, US or the USSR, would go a long way towards constituting an axis victory.
The game is NOT supposed to end once the axis first wave of easy conquests ends and the allies start to counter attack. Rome, Berlin and Tokyo should be visited before the next game starts over. What Axis team can set the record for holding out the longest?

Key points:
London
Gibraltar
Suez
Paris
Leningrad
Moscow
Stalingrad
Vladivostok
Singapore
Pearl Harbour

Houserules:
The US may not go to war before 1942 unless the Monroe Doctrine is breached (Axis DOW in the Americas) or when Japan is at war with a Western power.
No unhistorical alliances are allowed. All axis may ally whenever they choose to. China must remain unaligned
Humans may not influence other humans
Allies and the SU aren't allowed to break at start Trade agreements with Axis humans unless at war or through events (US oil embargo) or if the efficiency is lower than 100 %
Allies and the SU aren't allowed to trade for resources (exeption supplies and money) they already have a surplus of
The US can only supply UK and the USSR with resources after the recipeints are in a major war
Speed will be adjusted to the situation, pausing is allowed but shouldn't be abused.
No nukes before 1945
Balanced builds; Don't build only one thing and go for broke if that strategy fails. This is especially important in a 1936 campaign
No tech sharing (except within the CW) unless the alliance is at war
The Allies may not fill France with 300 divisions or so before the outbreak of war. A historical BEF force of around 10 divisions is allowed in Benelux.

Please feel free to come with suggestions for more House rules
I reserve the righ to introduce new ones as the campaign evolves if needed

Courtesy Rules:
Check this thread for updates before every session
Confirm wether you are playing or not well in time for each session
Write "in" when you enter a game
Show up in time
Press TAB to chat
If you are unsure wether something would be regarded by an "exploit" plz ask before doing it
No harsh language whatsoever will be accepted
Feel free to load up your own nation and ponder your strategic situation between sessions. It's however not allowed to open up other player's nations. This is non-enforceable but we all belong to a gentleman's club and I expect every man to do his duty!

most definately interested.

I would prefer a naval nation, either the UK, Japan or US.

ICQ is 213-847-998, i'm usually on 'invisible' so message me even if I don't seem there

Preferably as soviet.

The time is ok for me, but I would prefer to not play later then 23:00, but 00:00 is fine too.

My ICQ can be found in my sig IIRC.

23.00 is fine as well, maybe a tad later if the action warrants it.

Hi, I'm interested, nice to see the good old DEG getting started again, good work Juv.

I'm mostly interested in the big landpowers, prefer Germany or Soviets.

ICQ: 313230018

If the old "posse" rides again then I would like to join,

Country; whatever,

With this crew it will be an excellent campaign.
If we are many enough I would love to ahve multiple players on the same team, at least once general war starts.

First post updated...

A suggestion:

If we get a player for France, maybe they could have the option of moving to Canada if France is defeated?
Likewise if we get a player for Poland they could have Australia post-defeat.

A couple of clarifications:

Whilst my US is unlikely to be in the allies at the time, I assume that events that break trades are still allowed (specifically event 3701 - the oil embargo of Japan)

Does this include supplies or money? or are they not counted as 'resources'?

Also what happens if a trade drops to a very low percentage? - is it still only axis players who can break them (for example what if a UK-Japan trade is at a poor percentage during Japan's war with China - is only Japan allowed to break the trade?)

Sure, something along those lines could be organized. Maybe a second German player would be needed once the Eastern front is opened, etc.

The US must be considered an "allied" nation even before joining the alliance but this event is of course allowed to break trade deals.

The purpose of the rule is to not deprive the axis of rare materials so supplies and money should be quite alright.

I suppose we could clarify with that a less than 100% trade deal may be broken, ot that the restriction is only in effect while the Axis nation is at peace.

Good feedback!

You are welcome. After France falls (if) are you willing to move to another nation? I take it for granted that you have some experience of HOI2, are able to play every thursday at the same time and won't quit when France starts to get overrun? In that case you are more than welcome.

I would like to join if there are any room left. I have no MP experoience from HoI/HoI2 but I have played HoI and HoI2 enough to handle the task.

I could play a minor country (Poland, any China, Rumania, other options?) if it is ok.

I'd be very interested to join, if possible. I have no MP exoerience whatsoever but have clocked up a few hours on HOI2 since it came out.

I'll play any country the GM deems fit, but i'd esp like to have a crack at republican Spain, if poss. Don't have an icq at the mo, but will get one if i join.

First, you need to get ICQ to play.

Second, concerning choice of nation, with all the majors filled, what nation you will be placed in is a matter of discussion. We can not be sure that all of the signed up players will show up for the first session, Saberdance fx, needs to be subbed, and therefore a major might be available. I'm hesitant to place you in a minor nation before balance has been properly tried out but Axis Finland or Rumania might be an option.

Third, we need to explore the technical limitations of the game. Potentially this limits the number of players that can play. I can easily host +12 players in EU2 but what this limit is in HOI2 remains to be found out.

Except for these reservations you are welcome aboard.

That’s a splendid rule and a very simple one, my idea to solve this problem was way more confusing. How ever; perhaps this rule should also cover SU and not only the Allies?

Well I know that this is the first game and stuff needs to be tested first before we properly can consider if and then what kind of rules that needs to be added. Still I can’t help myself from giving a couple of suggestions and one important question;

The rules cover what you may NOT do…..correct? So what about sharing blueprints? Exp. forces? etc., yeahh sry cant help myself……

I’m sure all players realises that SU is powerful as hell and some rules to limit their strength should probably be needed. Perhaps SU shouldn’t be allowed to trade or set up negotiations with the Allies to avoid crazy supply deals during the war? But I’m fine to just roll on, since the game needs more testing in mp mode.

Should we really have an USA from start? Wouldn’t it be better to stick with the old school? Letting France or a CW human taker over USA in January 39 or something?

And last…..but most important; if the game is intended to start this (tomorrow) Thursday, then I can’t make it since it’s my mother’s birthday. No you can’t skip that stuff even if you are 30+. So hopefully you will be able to fill my spot, shouldn’t be a problem considering the large number of players. I still would like to join next session, what ever country or in a co-op.

Btw. Where are those damned Norwegians, don’t they have any pride?

Romania or Finland sounds nice, esp. Finland.
