Deleting units

I read on Harvard site that there is a command to delete division of a country
if i remember that command was

type = delete_unit which = [unit id/-1]

Removes the unit with the specified ID, or a random unit if 'which = -1'.

I copy it many times in a event, but it doesn't delete nothing for relative country. Why?
How dowes it works?
Is there a command to solve this problem?

For most purposes this command just doesn't work. There's no way to select specific divisions since you don't know their IDs and even if you did, there's no way to specify a type in addition to the ID. The only units it seems to delete with "which = -1" are those that are in corps created after the start of the game (type = 4712).
