I have a technical problem that I need your help with please.

Game Version & Patch (incl. publisher): Hoi2 demo

OS & build/SP: Windows XP sp1

Computer, CPU & speed: Hp pavilion intel celeron processor 700 mhz :(

RAM: 190 mb

Free HDD space: 22 gb

Video (brand, model, driver, memory): Nvidia tnt2 model 64 32.0 mb nv4_dsp.dll driver

Sound (brand, model, driver):

DirectX Version: 9.0b

Other: when I try to open the hoi 2 playable demo the screen turns black and nothing happens. I had this same problem when I downloaded the Supreme Ruler 2010 demo. The tech people determined that it was something wrong with the nvidia driver and created a workaround for it and the demo then worked perfectly

What was the "work around"?

I cant find the actual work around but i found a section on it in the SR2010 readme

The 71.89 nVidia driver version contains a bug that may cause significant graphic display problems in the game; at the time of this release there was no later driver available, but once a more recent driver is released it should resolve this nVidia issue. Until then, we have a workaround available as a game option. Given the fact that it may be hard to see menus due to this bug, the workaround is also available as a registry update – double click on the file ‘nVidiaFix.reg’ in the \Regsitry directory of the game install. If you have any difficulty with this, send an email to support@bgforums.com for assistance.

Have you the latest drivers installed?

Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back

Shouldbe a subfolder in the HOI2 folder, whereever you installed the demo to.

Perhaps th eintro movies are not included in the Demo version.
Set the color depth to 16 Bit.
Also you could take a look at that registry entry to see if there are any graphic instructions and make a note of how they were telling the card to setup to run the game.
