Awesome work and I have enjoyed playing on them. Is there any other types of planets or variants you might want to try out?

Heavily volcanic terrain
Dune ish planet, like a martian variant with soft slowing sands, wind storms, high dunes and heavy instability.
Mega cities
Maybe a type of biome that has heavily reduced visibility.

I'm hoping that the Urban Warfare expansion might have something similar to a Mega City type of biome. Essentially one city the size of the entire map.

That way when my lance goes crashing through the city, destroying buildings and such, I can have the SNES Sim City Panic music playing in my head as I pretend to be Bowser :D.

P.S. SNES SimCity might be the best console port of a PC game ever made. Seriously, probably the best version of the original game.

I think that every biomes' CGI and animations in BATTLETECH and BATTLETHECH: FLASHPOINT are astonishingly beautiful to look at, IMHO, but I agree with the most commonly expressed opinion in this thread that the new Tropical biome is over the top indeed - the best of the best!!! Keep going on!

Thanks! Also, there are so many I'd love to try. Right now, I'm 100% focused on Urban Warfare but I'm excited for the future.

It's definitely a good addition to the game.

If weather effects start coming into play for future titles, I'd highly suggest a tropical storm or otherwise very heavy rainfall with occasional thunderclaps, reducing sight range, piloting, and to-hit chances, but also reducing heat buildup (maybe half of the effects of standing in water).

I am really looking forward to what you come up with @HBS_Leshy for Urban Warfare and if what you've shown us already is anything to go off of, I think we are in for a real treat! :> I will ask, who's in charge of weather for this game? It would be awesome to add more weather effects to your beautiful maps :)

Personally, I'd love to have some thunderstorms, snowstorms, sandstorms, solar-storms and natural hazards; earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides, tsunamis, floods, tornadoes and fires. Oh.. and the ability to play missions at night (seems as it is now that you can start at night but quickly turns to day? Night missions look so sexy.. they're my favorite! :D )

Any hints as to how big the urban side of Battletech will be? Will map sizes be the smaller or larger than most we encounter now? How different can we expect Urban Warfare maps to be compared to the maps we have now? I'd just like to say that I think it would be immersive and cool to see civilians running around the map whether on ground or in the air or free falling to their deaths from structures/buildings that get damaged/destroyed (too far?).. just little details to make the player feel like the map is living (or that people are dying? ha.. ha.. :S ).

Anyways, thanks for sharing this diary with us, I really enjoyed it and am eager for more in the future. :> Keep up the hard work, goes for everyone at HBS, I love you guys!

Not sure if it's "part" of the biome per say but I was semi-zoomed in today on a Tropical biome when one of my mean ol mechs ran into the jungle and startled a flock of birds into the air. I know it was just a sprite of some sort but I did spend a little moment of joy marvelling at it. Thanks for all your good work :)

Take it as a given that I am happy with all the biomes in this game. In their own way, they all are first class.

I just wish I could set fire to them to flush out the Op For from cover! ;)

Is now a bad time to bring up that I also worked on the Lunar terrain textures???

And thank you everyone for all the nice comments!

There is no greater challenge than making the surface of a lifeless moon look interesting. I'd say you surpassed interesting and are in to amazing.

Not to detract from your work on the tropical biome, it is fantastic. Recreating a paradise will not go unnoticed by the audience. Either you will be harshly judged or celebrated for your effort. (And you achieved five stars on the Tropical Biome) However, a moonscape can easily be ignored by an audience. So I thought I'd take a moment to say this:

In any game I've played where the Moon or a moon like surface was represented in the game, This is by far the best.

OMG moment the first time I dropped on a lunar mission. Dat view!

But how are there no giant mushroom people missions with all those spores flying all over the place.
Long term medical effects from breached Head Armor, anyone? : )
