To the Devs:

What are the areas in DH, allowing for the current mods, that need either joining up or doing to help make DH a better game?

I've been chatting with Burning and adding that to what FT said to me ages ago, "having a reason to do a mod first, a plan..."; they are both right, it would be better to spend the time and energy on getting DH better, rather than probably repeating work already done, and just concentrating on getting a version of RDD up and running.

So, what needs doing?

Thanks for the replies and clearing that up for me.

I was thinking of "tinkering" with a DH save-game, OOB type program, of the type found on the HOI3 site, OR a very simple event generator to mass produce events for DH.

Any use?

There is already a event editor generator for HOI2 that works with DH, but it's only very limited and restrictive in what you can create.
A tool to easily add new ministers/leaders/techteams would be useful aswell i guess, every small mod would benefit from a complete db in dh full.

The most important thing in both tools would be a graphical interface, and a mechanic to check for already used ids/names and automatic/or manual assignment of free ids.

If you wanna make a useful third party tool, an external province.csv GUI would be handy, since doing the whole thing from scratch is terrifying! Especially the whole x, y thing which has to basically be done blind.

Similarly with the tech mods.

Actually if you could create a program that can call up the relevant image and allow you to place cities/beach/fort etc icons. on the map or tech icons on it's relevant tree, that would be incredibly useful.

Yes, I think I know exactly the type of little program you want. I've already been tinkering today, and successfully got my little program doing what I wanted. I'm pleased.:p
So give me a few weeks and let me see what I can come up with.

@KaiserMuffin: yeah, this will have to be for later on. Hopefully I'll sort something out. Cheers

A minister/general maker would be amazing. I remember making entire (fictional) countries leader and minister pools in half-an-hour with the tool that came with the complete version of HoI2

If you have DD/ARMA, just use the editor from there and copy the files over. It's what I used for CG ministers. :D

Help would be awesome in the following order
  • a event-script language definition for a common IDE (Netbeans, Eclipse) that supports auto-indenting and code completion, instead of a stand alone event creator
  • Help in AAR
  • a debugging tool that automatically analyzers events for script-errors (if the language definition exists, this would not be needed)

@Burning.. you should contact AC, as I'm sure he has a tool that does what you need? based on XML I think?

if you need more work burden a program to edit scenario files would be lovely but not really really needed.
