I mean money ('Staatsgeschenk' etc.) from another country to boost relations? I believe, noone did. The answer to this could be, that YOUR behaviour will be rather independent of the 'relations' expressed on the -200 to +200 scale. But if so:

Do the various AI nations give donations to one another at least? I mean, do they REALLY (i.e. not only in theory)? Or do they nothing to improve relations except going for 'royal marriages'?

I am pretty sure that they don't give you money presents, I never received one and a friend of mine dind't, too. I fear that is simply not programed in the AI, but I always found this a bit unfair, too. Gernerally I find the diplomacy a bit one-way directed, with the exception of wars the other countries are not very interested in me. With luck sometimes the offer you royal marriage but thats it.
Specially when I reach super power status my neighboring countries should be more interested in having good relations with me, because otherwise they are in danger to be conquered by me.

My opinion is that the IA shouldn't give money to players (presents) to increase relationships like players do.
When a player spend money on diplomacy to forge good relationships with a country, that country then, probably, has a good opinion of the player's country and will behave accordingly.
But if a player receive money, whatever the relationship he has with an AIcountry, even +200, there is still the possibility for the player to attack it.

I mean : you could receive presents that would help you to muster an army to crush the country who sending you the said present.

The IA sticks to relationships. A player isn't obliged.

Your comments are right but I think it's a gameplay feature and decision.

That´s exactly, what I thought. :) But AI should try to improve relations with OTHER AI players by sending gifts. And I´m not sure, if it does...

Does the AI offer for you to join alliances? Is it possible (if not, it would be nice) to request to be part of an alliance? Either as the player, or have AI countries ask to join your alliance. If they really want to be on good terms with you, they could ask to be your ally....

Well, in one of my recent games I was (repeatedly) asked by Poland, Turkey and China to join their alliances...

Hartmann

Edit: Ah, now I see, what Pierre meant. No, I didn´t see that either...

In a current game as Russia, my alliance expired and I immediately received offers from 3 other alliances asking me to join them.

Of course I refused, reforged my old alliance and went on the warpath again :D

In my game I was also as England offered an alliance from Marocco which I was stupid enough the accept :( I know am not the leader of a stupid alliance with Marocco, and I don't want the negative modifiers when I brake it :(

Oh well :)

Iyanga as I said..it happened in the case of Marocco, and when that alliance expired they immediately asked again... i.e. asked me to join their alliance..

Well actually I asked both questions. I thought the first answer was yes, you will be asked (if you are not in an alliance already). However, the second question was what I wondered most - will a nation ask to be a part of YOUR alliance that you have already formed with other nations. It seems the answer to this is no. It also would be good to ask if you can become part of an existing alliance, instead of having to wait passively for the alliance leader to ask you to join. (This would be helpful when you want to join an alliance losing a war to help preserve a balance of power, for instance.)

Your 100% right about that.

This, on the other hand, leaves me puzzled: You CAN ask for that. Just ask the alliance leader! (Or did I misinterpret Your comment?)

You are probably right on that, Hartmann. I suppose you can ask the alliance leader to join if you are not in an alliance now. I think I was trying it while I was in another alliance - so probably the situation is you cannot combine alliances. :)
