So I bought the game about a week ago (heh), and have absolutely loved it so far! Paradox is quickly becoming one of my favorite game developers. I've been practicing with U.N.E., cause I'm still a new player, just to learn the games mechanics, but, I've dabbled in Empire creator, and actually made something I'm quite proud of. So, I hereby present to you; The Great Lokkar Dominion!

So yeah, really proud of how this turned out! I envisioned in my head a race a bit like the Krogan from the Mass Effect Games; great, powerful creatures talented in one thing; the art of war.

I honestly don't know where I want to go with this. This is the first time I've posted anything of this nature, so I'm a bit nervous in that regard. Maybe I'll go a bit more into the backstory? Maybe I'll do an AAR (More than likely after the next patch and dlc is released, as to acclimate myself to the new mechanics and bug fixes. Plus Space Dragons!)? I dunno. Feel free to let me know, I'd love a little push to get myself to actually do something thats a bit outside my comfort zone. :)

Props for using my favourite reptilian portrait, and props again for finding an icon that actually resembles them! I don't know if it was intentional, but it looks like they have a skull on their flag -- a lokkar one, not a human one. That itself says a great deal about the sort of society we're dealing with.

I would be interested to hear about these guys if you end up writing an AAR. (Although I may be writing one myself with a species using the same skin, not to cramp your style ;) )

Thank you for the kind words, and by all means go ahead and write your AAR (will look forward to reading it :))! Like I said above, I dunno if I actually will write one, or where I'll go with these guys in regards to a full blown AAR, due to me just being a very reserved person in general. I don't have the kind of self-confidence to write and post the actions and story that alot of people will see and read. Maybe after the new patch and DLC are released and I've played with it a little bit. I'm still relatively new to Stellaris, and it's got a lot of story-telling potential! But I'll have to see if I have some free time to do so after the DLC comes out. :p

Edit: I can't for the life of me decide whether to go for Military Dictatorship, or Despotic Empire for a government type. Do you have a preference?

Okay, so after a short test run and some thinking, I made a small change to the Lokkar Dominion. If I left them as Fanatic Militarists and Collectivists, I'd only be allowed to enslave members of my primary species, which, from a role playing stand point (yes I roleplay a little bit) doesn't make sense. The Lokkar are a people who've had one thing bred into the very blood of their society over the millennia; martial strength above all else. If you weren't considered as strong as your fellow Lokkar by the time you reached maturity, then you'd have a one way ticket to the slave chains. Obviously this wouldn't have been a problem if it was just themselves they were talking about. But in the bigger picture, on the galactic stage, that wouldn't do.

You see, the Lokkar value strength above all, and so this obviously gives them the notion that, compared to the other aliens they'll undoubtedly encounter as the reach for the stars, that they are "superior" and thus should have the right to rule over all they consider weak. Now they'll meet those who prove a worthy challenge, and will be spared the chains.

I don't really know. Should I leave them as they are? Should I change their ethics so they can enslave other species as well as those among their own who are not worthy? I'm not very good at this sorta thing-creating nations and societies-and I'd love feed back of any sort. :D

Unless something has changed very recently, if I recall correctly, you can enslave everyone indiscriminately as a collectivist so long as it's a population within your empire. They just don't have a policy specifically for xenos slavery because that's exclusive to xenophobe regimes. Are you having a problem with enslaving xenos pops or something? That might be a bug. :(

I think keeping them collectivist as you've described is a good way of doing things, if indeed they do practice slavery amongst their own kind.

Hmm, odd. In an earlier test there was an option in the Policy tab that said which group could be enslaved; Primary Species or Xenos. Then again, it may have something to do with the empire being a Military Junta, because I was testing to see which ethos worked with the back story I was penning. :p

Edit: Ah, my bad. After looking into it, it turns out that isn't the case. That was a mistake on my part because I thought the policy would carried over. So all is good on the ethos front. xD

So, bit of an update. I've been playing a "test" game with my Empire of horned conquerors, and have gotten to a pretty good point:

I'm currently sitting on 4 Betharian nodes, I have just researched Destroyer's and Cold Fusion Power, and am currently considering expanding to the arm of the galaxy directly across from mine, due to the Gavinus Clan's to the south being superior to me in power, and the Igarian Successor State to the north who just so happen to be my first Fallen Empire I've discovered in the game, and they're kinda intimidating sitting. And waiting...

Anywho, seeing as how the new DLC/Patch come out Thursday, I'm going to continue playing this game until release day, then check out what changes have been made. As for the AAR...we'll see. ;)
