I've been playing the Vision Park Scandinavian (2001) version of EU II for years. Before leaving the game behind me, I wanted to try The Grand Campaign as my home country.

I downloaded the 1.09 Patch mirror#5 (http://www.paradoxplaza.com/downloads/eu2_1.09.exe) from the official site. This is the only patch I've ever downloaded.

I have Windows XP Home Edition (2002) on a Fujitsu Siemens SCALEO-La300-61 with AMD Sempron 3000+ 1.99 Ghz/512 Mb DDR (333Mhz)/60Gb/nForce2. It has lots of free space, DirectX is up to date and no harmfull extras. EU II runs on it like a dream.

I read the SE ReadMe (not very long, is it?) and tried then to work it out by myself. I loaded up The Grand Campaign and removed the Finnish provinces from Sweden (national, owned) and Kexholm from the smaller Russian states (national, owned). I then removed the Swedish troops from Finland and created the country. I Ctrl/Left-clicked the Finnish provinces as 'national', but when I tried to Ctrl/Left-click them as 'owned' the SE stopped and I got the Windows pop-up (the most annoying thing in the World) saying (translated from Finnish) "Scenario Editor.exe has spotted an error, and the product must be shut down. We apologise for the disruption." Then the SE shut down as promised.

Dont' you just hate, when that happens (so nice of them to apologise). I tested it with other countries. I don't seem to be able to assign ownership! What the blazes is wrong?

Sorry the Editor is not support, and I assume not compatible with 1.09.

It is very easy to mod the scenario files, just open them with Word pad.
If you need some pointers people in the Scenario and Modification forum should be happy to help.

You mean "does not support"? Why on earth not?

I would need more than some pointers from Scen/Mod-people, if I would try to start modifying files with WordPad (not a technical person, dear boy). I much rather unistall my previous EU II with 1.09. and get 1.05. for the new installation.

How will I get 1.05.? All the links here lead to a dead end?

Some one has an archive of older patches I do not know if it goes back to 1.5 or not.
You could look in the general forum and if you cannot find it ask there.

And really the files are in plain text and easy to change.
I do not know anyone that uses the editor, even when it worked. :)

A simple solution to create Finland is to edit the 'revolt.txt' file so that Finland can be released (with all its provinces) as a vassal in 1419, then start the game as Sweden, release Finland, reload.

To do this, find the FIN entry, and add the necessary province numbers to the core list (or similar) - the numbers can be found in the province.csv file. It really isn't _that_ hard :)

As Castellon said, it is really much better to do the edits in the text files once you get to know how it works.

A start would be this thread, with this website for some more info.

If you get into trouble, the people of the modding forum are generally friendly towards strangers... :)

Always fun to learn new stuff, I think you will find it much easier than you anticipate.
