Um...update? @PanzerCorps
No worries. I forgot to send in my retreat orders which delayed the turn, so it’s not just you.Oh crap I forgot. I'm in bed now
Tomorrow for sure
Really sorry about that
Technically yes, but he has to specify it to West coast, since my navy in Scotland came from the east coast, you can't retreat to the place you got attacked from.
Or actually, can he even retreat to Northumbria at all, since that's where he got attacked and dislodged from?
I have also read that Burgundy starts out with the strongest position to win the game when I was preparing for the game.As I expected, unless Dedonus was lying. I talked with Panzer a bit in private, but I think Burgundy starts in the strongest position to win the game, and that the small size of the game with only three players creates a very different situation compared to regular Diplomacy.
Yeah those would have been better for him, though also committing England somewhat heavily against Burgundy. As for what I told him, it wasn't much, though I did say that based on Spring turn that you had held to your deal with me more than your deal with him, perhaps making him distrust you more? Him disbanding his English Channel fleet was also weird since it meant none of his remaining units could support each other.Where the game went wrong was Fall 1425. I told England to do the following moves:
Fleet Anglia move the Wash
Fleet English Channel move Strait of Dover
Army Brittany move Guyenne
I told Grimlock that it would be pointless to head to Scotland right away, as it would take 3 turns for him to get a build from it. This move, instead, would prevent Burgundy from building two fleets unless Aedan sent his Fleet Holland into Friesland. But whatever you told him, Aedan, he didn't trust me, and did his own thing. Then England disbanded one of his fleets.
I was pretty surprised myself when Grimlock out of the blue came to off to support me back into Calais after you two worked together to take it from me. It makes a bit more sense if you recall that at that point I had two navies outside London and, if I'd wanted to, could have taken it easily. His deal to support me required me not to take London, which wasn't a terrible deal for him. It might have been better for him if he'd lied about the support, though that would've had consequences of its own.And I can get why Grimlock stabbed me after we took Calais (two empty centers right on his borders, although if I had stayed with my original orders, I would have kept both with self-bonces), but what I don't get is giving support into Calais. If Grimlock's "Christmas" scenario was to capture both Toulouse and Orleanais (to go up to 7 supply centers), why would he allow Burgundy to get Calais back? If Calais had stayed in my position, then Burgundy would have had to disband one of his fleets. The only way that would not have happened is if Burgundy and France would have teamed up against England in that specific scenario.
