I'd like to run a game of the Diplomacy variant Necromancer, set in Middle Earth; I'm looking for 2 more players, I've already got 6 out of the 8 needed. I'll be running it by email (with a website for maps, orders, etc.). It has a number of special rules to bring the flavour of the War of the Ring to the game, but the core is still definitely Diplomacy. The Sauron power has a number of sleeping armies that lie in wait, awakened one at a time during each build phase, so that his threat grows and must be dealt with by the other squabbling powers. He is eliminated automatically if he doesn't win by the 9th build phase, leaving Middle Earth to its petty disputes afterwards. You can check out the homepage here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/irene.rich/Gary/Diplomacy/Necromancer/

The full rules on the homepage may look a bit long, but the concepts are simple. For a summary of these rules see http://pastebin.com/3aPjp6uV . Here's a quick overview of what's in the game:

Special Rules

- Fortresses
- Armies can be upgraded with Siege Engines or Fleets
- Personality units with special powers: Nazgul, Saruman
- Hidden Movement for Nazgul and Saruman
- Double Movement for Nazgul and Rohan's Cavalry
- Multiple Units: stacked units, available to Gondor, and Nazgul when leading

Powers:

Sauron: Nazgul unit; sleeping armies that activate once per build phase; time limit to win or is automatically eliminated (ie. the Ring is destroyed); Spiders and Dragon army units, also dormant and which don't require supply
Saruman: Wizard unit, hidden and counts as mobile supply centre; third starting army location chosen in first move phase; eliminated if Wizard destroyed
Gondor: can form Multiple (ie. stacked) Units
Elves: Bonus VP for their two starting Fortresses
Dwarves: Bonus VP for 4 of the mountain Fortresses, all mountain fortresses are home supply centres
Rohan: Can build Cavalry in one special area
Harad: No special powers, starts isolated

Winning: 19 VP to win, 1 VP per SC plus Elven/Dwarvish bonuses

Hope it's OK to advertise for a PBEM game here. If you're interested let me know!

You might want to advertise a bit in the existing diplomacy threads

There was a time when it could be said that you wouldn't back away from the challenge of being the top ambassador of Harad. That time is over.

I don't play middle east diplomacy. I play diplomacy.

This looks cool but too complicated I'll just watch
