It should be relatively simple to set up a macro style system where you can set parameters for the AI to handle your diplomacy and spying for you like it does convoys and production.

Under the diplomacy or espionage tab you would click the nation and get your normal series of options but each one would have a series of buttons allowing you to set whether and under what conditions to repeats the action. For example you could set it to influence Mexico every 7 days until relations reached 190+ and then to propose a non-aggression pact until they agree.

Each of these actions would go into a production style list that you could prioritize by changing the order of the list. Thereby ensuring that when money gets tight the highest priority entries are executed first.

I totally agree...

I agree and raised this in a previous thread on enhancements. I also think that you should always have a minimal idea of what neutral countries are up to (the equivalent of one spy) through your embassies. Minor powers could be granted this only in their neighbors, but major powers had embassies everywhere in the world.

Good point. I do think that even in the 30 the world had a vague idea of each nations military strengths and capabilities. The League of Nations published an annual handbook of world military strength listing every known division, ship, or plane. It was very inaccurate but was still more than the game tells you. I think a higher minimum level of knowledge makes a lot of sense. The more closed a society is the less everyone else knows but they still should know something.
