Disappearing countries

After loading a save file, a bunch of countries have just disappeared. In their place are unclaimed colonies.

The countries that vanished are:

Everything with its capital in the Americas (including USA)
One of the German minors, I don't remember which one (but it was the only one that had declined merging with Germany in the conservative empire event)
Tunis
Zanzibar
Cambodia
Luang Prabang
Brunei
and a couple in Oceania whose names I don't remember.


Any suggestions on either how I can fix this or prevent it from happening again?

Which version did you play when you saved the game and which version did you play when trying to load it again? Sounds to me as if you were using some mod (VIP?) when saving, then loading the game in vanilla Victoria when loading again.

Also, do you run Vista and have the game installed in C:\Program Files? Uninstall, then install to a different directory like C:\games. The Program Files folder is Vista's personal Vault. It doesn't want the user to change things in there, be it savegames or patches...

After some experimenting, I think what caused it is that I had deleted a couple of RGOs from various provinces prior to trading them. Reloading from an earlier save and not doing that let the game proceed fine.

But thanks for the tips though, I'll keep them in mind of something else happens.
