Disappearing Navies

Built up a navy of about 28 ships, put a nice army with my best general on them, sent them out to a war, never saw or heard from them again. I checked the ocean where I sent them to, nowhere to be found. I opened up my "Military" menu at the top of the screen, no navies in my arsenal any more. What gives!! :wacko:

I had a similar problem: When a civil war started I lost one of my two navies. It was in port in a province which joined the rebels, but the troops stationed there stayed loyal.
The navy did not join the rebels. It just disappeared.
