Test game with Portugal. Again, Entente at war with Mexico from the get-go (is revolutionary Mexico supposed to be conservative democrat?). The war started with Frankie getting killed, there was much fighting in which the germans seemed overpowered (CP seemed to outnumber the Entente on both fronts) and Armistice in Jan 1917 with a CP victory. Meanwhile, the USA went to war with the Entente, and afterwards with the Central Powers. If the AI knew how to conduct overseas wars the US would get creamed.

You must have done something wrong, as revolutionary Mexico are socialist.

My activity during all this was to tie up portuguese IC down to 18 (~= max what you can squeeze out of the portuguese resources) with various improvements, and ALL the remaining went to running expenses and researching aircraft. About mid 1920 I managed to progress from the starting level to having my first basic bomber unit built. I had to skip recce plane research to get that. I don't know, but that definitely seems somewhat overpriced.

In fact, tech pricing seems way too flat right now. Everything is 10IC for 120 days.

And that is not correct either. I've changed the tech pricing and time, and techs that give no points, and just are pre-reqs (like "basic airframe") for other techs have much lower cost and time.

Definitely not. They're Socialists (the Head of Government is alignment LE). If they're coming up as a democracy in your game, then this (a) explains why the Entente is declaring war on Mexico (b) shows that Rev Mexico is using the wrong minister files in your game.

Right - just started another game using mod-dir, and (killing two birds with one stone) played as Revolutionary Mexico.

The propaganda posters are now working properly.
Still lots of db mismatches.

Revolutionary Mexico's Head of State is... Queen Wilhelmina! So how has country U07 ended up with Dutch ministers?

Because the ID for the Revolutionary Mexican head of state is the same as the 'Indonesian' Head of State in the standard HOI. A dummy file for the Revolutionary Mexican minister file is needed in the standard HOI folder, and I think you might need a dummy Indonesian file in the TGW minister folder as well.

Spring 1915, Brest-Litovsk fires (Russia had already had a defeat event, I don't know if they were at war with the CP) and a lot of countries start showing up. Then Russia is at war with the Central Powers.

The peace treaty firing well after the defeat is intentional. :) Did Russia declare war on the Central Powers after the signing of the treaty, or did war between them not cease during that time?

In what manner was the CP's victory? Germany occupation of parts of enemy territory?

More adventures with mod-dir.

I've got rid of all the database mismatches by making sure that every file in db\ministers and db\leaders has a (dummy, if necessary) file with the same name in TGW\db\ministers and TGW\db\ministers, and vice-versa. Unfortunately, all the leaders have now disappeared. :( The ministers are working correctly, however.

Did leaders appear when you got database mismatches?

Just played a few years with the Ottomans.

The Ship buying events don't seem to work. I lose supplied but get nothing.

Some serious balancing is needed. The British offered absolutely zero resistance in Egypt and the middle east. I cleared out all the British and French in less than 4 months, easily taking Belgian Congo too. The British navy is far too weak in the Med. sea. My 14 ships easily defeated them every time. The War went strangely too. The Germans made little advance toward the Russians, and in June 1915 were begining to lose ground on that front. The French however pressed far into Germany, and almost took Berlin. The A-Hs made huge gains everywhere, especially into Russia. Japan keeps trying to send small fleets of 1 or 2 ships to Europe, unsuccessfully.

There's the possibility that you were unlucky, bought the ships and the British seized them. AFAIK, they were being built in Britain, and historically they took them when the war started (Or this may be a different ship altogether). If the war started on summer 1914 chanced are you lose your supplies and get nothing.

Check the game log to see if the british seized your ships.

Summary of what needs tweaking so far -

1 - More British troops in Egypt.
2 - Russian manpower needs increasing so Uber Germany and Austria cant cream them every time.
3 - Dumb down AH?
4 - Add cores to KMT China - that is all of China, plus Taiwan, Manchuria, outer Mongolia and Tibet. Also remove KMT held Guangdong from China core.
5 - Belgian defeat event needs altering to have it fire when Arlon, Brussels, Antwerpen are lost.
6 - Dutch defeat event needs altering to have trigger as loss of continental Netherlands.
7 - Schlieffen Plan event add declare war on Luxemburg.
8 - Russian defeat event right now negotiates peace on behalf of Entente instead of separate peace.

OK, adding an empty ministers_ino.csv to mod-tgw\db\ministers solves the Mexico problems, apparently. U07 and INO using the same minister ids is probably causing part of the DB mismatches being reported. (a good reason for using a mod-dir distro with all required dummy files)

As for the tech costs, saying that every tech has 10*120 cost was somewhat of an exageration, but almost all the techs from the portuguese starting tech to basic bomber (skipping all non-essentials) had those costs. In fact, the heavier than air tech doesn't seem to have any tech lower than 8*90. For some reason, I don't think dedicating all the portuguese economy to aircraft development for 6 years would only allow progressing from primitive flyer to basic bomber.

Of course, maybe I have the wrong tech files. Did the team distribution have the same tech trees that the public version carries?

Allenby, the defeat events seem to have fired correctly, the germans were indeed beating the french. Maybe the Entente being slightly distracted by Mexico was helping the CP. But anyway, the germans seemed to be getting numbers superiority in attacks with some ease, and overwhelming the Entente front. The only strange thing was Russia fighting after Brest-Litovsk, but they may have just declared war again. One thing that I noticed, France was defeated and was still getting wartime events. Maybe all events spawning from war (Mouvements colectifs d'indiscipline, for example) should have a trigger that doesn't allow them to happen if the defeat event has fired?

Well, the Belgians lost almost all their territory IRL and didn't surrender. They should not surrender unless the french or british surrender too, IMO.

OK, will do. I assumed you'd release the same version you sent to everyone to test if everything was running smoothly...

How did they fare? The peace treaty should take all of their resources away. To stop the democracies declaring war after peace treaties, I've put in a command to lower warentry, but for autocracies....

And China should not have the cores with out careful playtesting. Early versions had them (along with other large powers like Russia) demanding those territories diplomatically and the smaller/weaker countries gave in. Since there is nothing we can do about it, removing cores (even though they may deserve them) is sometimes necessary for gamability.

By adding cores I mean KMT China which starts with 4 provinces. Nobody would give in to their demands.

1 - More British troops in Egypt.
2 - Russian manpower needs increasing so Uber Germany and Austria cant cream them every time.
3 - Dumb down AH?

7 - Russian defeat event right now negotiates peace on behalf of Entente instead of separate peace.
8 - Revolter nations should get a few events giving them troops, so they dont get totally overrun.
9 - I see the sealed train, February revolution, April thesis, July days, Petrograd order no.1 all trigger at once after "Russia is defeated". Presumably the dissent hit from the defeat triggered all that, which makes me think the dissent increasing events for Russia must be increased so the revolution can occur in 1917. Also if all those events fire at once maybe some tweaking with dates is needed?
