Dear Paradox Officials. I feel, as a consumer and as a gamer, embarrassed by the long-standing fad of silly and unnecessary localization of proper names in games such as Europa Universalis IV and Hearts of Iron IV. It's especially annoying that some countries (according to you) have to have a local name (which translators won't translate because you pay them for a specific language. for example: English to German - So if it's Italian or Swedish instead of English, they won't translate the name. The result of your policy is that we don't have a name of our own for many countries in our language that would normally have one if it weren't for your regional naming policy. It's just a shame that you can name Sweden in Swedish, Italy in Italian, Brazil in Portuguese, but you can't name Russia in Russian (Cyrillic) or China in Chinese runic alphabet. Are you guys afraid to give such names? Why do you add such names to every new DLC, governments, is it necessary? Either make each country in their own language, or discard this stupid policy. Totally don't like it, and as much as I respect many nationalities, languages, I would prefer to understand what the name of a country or type of government or vassal is, for example. Please restore the English language versions for the English Version of the game, and give their proper names in the local language. - According to the translated version.

I also invite you to discuss this topic. I am curious what other consumers of paradox products think.

I am confused. So as a Russian player you want the localization to be in the Russian alphabet or as a Chinese player for them to be is Chinese? Sounds reasonable.

I don't understand the issue you're raising. Could you perhaps provide an example of how this policy works for a specific country, and how you think it should work?

Alternative focuses are added along with the new DLCs. So we can play, for example, fascist Sweden, but instead of, for example, the "Sweden Empire" we get some incomprehensible local name in Swedish. (Although the game is in English) and in other languages it is the same. And the same has been added to the new DLCS for a long time. And while the "Imperium Romanum" instead of "Roman Empire" (in English version of game) can somehow be abolished, more countries with difficult names, for example in DLC in Latin America, and names in Portuguese or Spanish in every language version, there is no one sense. (this applies to Hearts of Iron IV)

Or another example in Europe Universalis IV:

In the English version, regional names like Turkish were added which I absolutely do not understand nor match these names to the other names of states in English.

I am only asking for games in the English language version - have names only in English. When this happens, people who explain games for other languages will know that it must be translated.

I am asking you to fix the English language version in your games, and not to add such "ideas" in the future.

Thank you.

for example (english version eu4)

In the English version it would simply be "State"

Of course, there are many more examples, but I add that people understand what's going on.

I spent some time to understand your meaning. I think that this belongs to the choice of the devs team of each PDS studio, and the reason why they pay less attention on Russian and Chinese is probably that they do not have many staffs who can speak Russian or Chinese.

But this is actually on changing. If my memory does not cheat me, Studio Gold has added a Russian Romanized country name for Bukharin USSR (it seems to be SSSR), and for chinese, please see this from Project Ceasar which is not EU5:

If you are a chinese, you would definitely know how much have PDS Tinto have done in this area. If you are not, you may find the reason because of its difference from the common romanized form of chinese language.

But your concern is indeed a thing that has brought a strange immersion in gameplay - HOI4 Nordic country names I mean. But considering that PDX is a Swedish company, that's kinda acceptable and fair. It reminds me of one of my posts aftrt HOI4 AAT, saying that it would be fair to keep some English spelling in UK content of HOI4 in non-English localisation. xD

And there're another thing that should not be ignored: Russian, Korean, Japanese and Chinese are not using Latin alphabets. It would be weird to leave many untranslated strings in these localisation, e.g. HOI4.

BTW,
unnecessary localization of proper names in games such as Europa Universalis IV
since EUIV has no russian or chinese localisation, it would not be a thing anyway, and I think that localisation mod team would work out a proper solution about this. But I do dislike the Austrian/Bavarian dynamic geographical names added in 1.37. "Soizboag", what the hell is that? Would an Austrian Germany speak Austrian dialect?
