In my current Kir'Ko game I am getting this penalty with all the human factions I have encountered and it's a crippling -250 relation penalty. Does anyone know how it's gotten? I thought maybe I got it with my first neighbor because I greeted them, but I got it with the next human neighbor and I didn't even greet them.

The hostile Diplomacy in this game is wrecking me. It's only my 2nd scenario (I lost my first one) and I'm already again in a two front war with both neighbors and I think I will probably lose this one too, argh.

Yeah, I did friendly pronouncements with the other Kir'Ko leader to get her from -250 to 50 but she still DOW'ed me. The humans started relations off at -400 so I didn't have a chance with them.

I just lost the game, heh. As I suspected I couldn't fight a war on two fronts. I actually was able to take a Kir'Ko colony and negotiate an end to what war, but the battle on the other front left my capital exposed and their units were too good anyway. One thing Kir'Ko is not great at is defending fortifications.

I think maybe I'm just getting very bad luck and getting mean AI leaders.

That Fast Talkers one is from you having the Skilled Diplomat perk. Basically every game some of the AIs will start with a -250 opinion modifier towards you due to one of your perk picks. Doesn't matter which perks you pick, they'll dislike one of them - I find if there's the default 5 AIs on the map, 3 of them will usually dislike you for your perk choices and the other two will start out neutral. You can pay them 500 energy to remove that negative opinion (I forget exactly what the option is called, but it's in the diplomacy negotiations).

If you don't take any flaws you can reduce the chances of having a personality conflict. I'm finding none of the flaws are worth it at this point. They all cost far more long term than you can get with a point anywhere else. I end up going with a 2 point background and 1 point in hero training or a vehicle on my hero and veteran. And its worth noting the only time I've considered the vehicle option appealing is with Assembly because a hero Wrecker gives me a case of the evil cackles.

True, but if you intend to create a dozen custom commanders or even more like me then you have to give some of them a little bit of personality along the way by choosing a flaw. Otherwise I would be playing with the same most efficient loadout each and every time and this quickly gets boring at least for me.

It's disappointing that a perk called "Skilled Diplomat" caused 2 of my 3 opponents to hate me. I picked that perk specifically because it was supposed to increase my relationships. I could have had that point spent elsewhere! Good to know it's just as likely to hurt as it is to help. It should cost 0 in that case. Or they should fix it so that it is guaranteed to help you more often than it will hurt you, unlike what happened to me.

It's a random thing. In my game, I have 2 of the 3 commanders I met dislike Ruthless Killers. Which... I can kinda understand why. I imagine they would find the 2 meter tall Amazon lady slamming down the latest killed wildlife on the table somewhat intimidating. :D
That said, it costs you but you can use diplomacy to have them overcome the dislike.
If I could only offer them items like I did in AoW3... I have more surplus of those than energy.

Well if you check what it does... Skilled diplomat increases relations with races and helps you spend less Influence to make NPC armies move aside. So it does not actually helps with other players, even though that's where you would use diplomacy normally. It is useful for those cases where you use units from races you are at war with, since they will have better relations to you and less likely to desert.

Anybody know what triggered hatred of me for "Incompetence"? As I recall, I had colonists, promethean close-combat, no vices. Vanguard. No special background.
Wait, no special background = Incompetence? That just might be it. Eh, I'm posting this anyway.

Yeah, man. At least I know how to talk fast, and BBShockwave can murder well.

Ah, thanks. I have done some reading since and understand the difference (somewhat) between race relations and player relations now. I feel less bad now :)
