Hi,

Some history news for you. If you are interested of the history, WWII and the Arctic warfare, you might get interested about the following.

The American media giant, Disney has bought the tv-rights to the Finnish documentary series, ’Untold Arctic Wars’ about the warfare in the Arctic, in the Nordic Countries and in the northmost parts of the Eastern Front during the WWII. The topics covered in the series include also the Allied, the German and the Soviet interest in Scandinavia and in the Nordic Countries during the war.

The series will be available also on the Disney-owned National Geographic channel in Belgium, the Netherlands and in Luxembourg.

On the subject, the Finnish Broadcasting Company, YLE, published an article in English.

How noble of Disney to save the world from Finnish propaganda by buying it up and then burying it in their extensive archives......

But seriously, while it makes little sense for Disney itself to invest in a Scandinavian documentary, it's completely understandable for their National Geographic subsidiary.

If you’re trying to be funny here, you’ve failed. And what makes you speak about propaganda? You haven’t seen the series, so you really cannot say anything about it, unless you have a pre-installed position, everything the Finns do is poison?

A few people here find it oddly amusing how Finnish history seems to be so prevalent here in the History forum, and a couple of them have commented on it previously (one of them even calling it the "Finnish History Forum" in a discussion in another forum). I didn't think you'd take the bit of humor badly.

I've got nothing against Finland, actually, seeing how they didn't have a lot of good options available under the circumstances. Coming from Hungarian ancestors, I have at least a basic understanding that some things come down to a choice between bad alternatives, especially for the "smaller players" in international politics.

I commented because it seems almost humorously out of character on the face of it for Disney to buy foreign war documentaries.

I don’t know that other thread, but I can imagine, it’s probably fairly negative in relation to what I stand for. Still, I would like to stress, to my knowledge, there are no country-specific limitations what comes to publishing threads in here. Further, for those whom are dissatisfied towards the publications, they can always publish their own threads, more satisfying and thus influence forum’s contet.

In addition, if you double-check the content of this thread, it’s not about the Finnish history, but promoting a documentary series about the WWII in the Nordics, in the Scandinavia and in the Soviet Union. Featuring also the Allied and German interest in this theatre of the war.

I’m not so familiar about the Disney content, but, at least in here, it’s very common to have everykind of foreign tv-shows, series, documentaries, etc. aired trough our national tv-channels.
