I keep getting this error every 30minutes and the game freezes and closes or it throws me to the blue screen of death and force restart the pc...

Any idea?

P.S. I tried every reso and windowed mode but the same :)

What Power supply unit do you have for your computer, and what are the requirements for the card?
Whenever I got a GPU recover for my ATI cards it was simply because not enough power was available... I upgraded my PSU and the issues disappeared.
This doesn't mean this IS the fix or problem, but worth mentioning that you should check this out.

It isn't the overall power output (i.e. 500watt) but the amount of power for 12v output from the PSU.
It only happened for one game for me (gfx intensive admittedly) and was fine for all others (this was many years ago, but... :p ).

What driver version are you using for you graphic card?

I am usin' the latest driver version is available :)

try to play the game in full screen, and close ur google chrome

Fullscreen will cause a blue screen of death to reboot :)

Ati Radeon 3800 users having issues are many.

Pro tip: Don't go into fullscreen with the 3800 unless you want to get multiple BSODs.

Multiple threads on the 3800's here:

Ati Radeon 3800 x 2, Vista 32-bit, 4gb. Well above spec requirements and still encounter GFX issues.

That's why I am not in fullscreen and I had searched topics about this prob and I found out that this is mostly a game bug that needs be patched. (That problem was the same when playin' Dead Space till they published a fix patch)

I'll try to change power supply and I'll post results :)

I didn't mean go buy or get a new PSU! Just check out via internet what the power draw for the card is, and then check out your PSU. It is usually printed on the side of the PSU what the power output is at 12v ;)

I get the exact same error with the exact same setup. cpu, gfx, But im using windows 7 64bit. Now I put it down to my pc just being a bitch but now that somone else has the issue with the same hardware it makes me think twice.

As for the psu... I have not had this problem with any other game new or old so I know for a fact the voltages are not dipping.

Your card is not fully compatabale with this game, but it is capatable to a point to allow you to play it.

I know this from first hand because I used to run the intel hd graphics intergrated card on this i5 chip on this machine with L4D2 it played fine aside from some obvious graphics being not what they should, and every so often i'd get this message

If updating drivers doesn't help, then a new graphics card is what you'll need. :)

You would expect that crap with the following
intel graphics
integrated

Updating the graphics card is the easy way out but with the game running fine on lesser cards raises doubts.

The cards may have been released in nov 2007 but still hold their groud against some new ones.

Also care to explain why it does this error more in the main menu than the gameplay itself?

When you get the Display Driver Stopped Responding message, its usually due the GPU being stressed out. You need to Increase the TDR timeout for your GPU. TDR means Timeout Detection and Recovery. Type regedit in the run dialogue box and goto the Registry Editor. Now go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control. Now click on GraphicsDrivers. You will see its content in the right pane. Go to this pane and right click in the empty space and press on new. Since you are using a 64-bit version of Windows, click on QWORD (64-bit) Value in the context menu. Now name the new registry value TdrDelay and press Enter. Now go into this registry by double clicking it and type 8 into its Value data. Close this editor and retart your PC. It should work fine now.
