Ive been playing a bit of Dithmarschen today via the beta patch and it has been an interesting play through which has provoked me to start this thread. I feel like a small amount of flavor could be added to solidify the experience a bit.

Dithmarschen Ideas

Traditions: +5% morale of armies, +2 Attrition for enemies

1. Resistance against Feudalism: +10% Land fire damage
"Whilst the peasants of Europe are bound to the shackles of Feudalism, the peoples of Dithmarschen maintain their independence. Our neighbors have long wished to subdue our peoples, forcing them under the cruelty of Feudalism. Our peasants will only be subjects to the good shepherd and not the hired hands of foreign tyrants."

2. Kirchspiele : +1 Tolerance of the true faith
"Within Dithmarschen, the functions of the state are largely overseen by the parishes that dot our lands. While the princes and kings surrounding us govern from fortified castles, our peoples administer our lands from god’s sacred temples under his divine mandate!”

3. Dithmarschen Trade Missions: +10% Trade steering, +1 Diplomatic relations

"The independence and wealth of Dithmarschen has long been reliant on commercial activity. From the Baltic through to North Sea, our traders have established good relations wherever they dock, whilst filling our treasury with ducats.”

4.Expert Wreckers: +10% Privateer efficiency, +20% Chance to capture enemy ships

When harvests fail or the fishermen’s hauls are poor, many of our peasants assume the mantle of piracy. Although we would never condone such actions, it is our custom to salvage leftover maritime freights and recover vessels abandoned by the victims of piracy.

5. Walls against the Sea −15% Build cost
"Not all enemies to our peoples come in the form of steel. For centuries great floods and storm tides have devastated our lands, sweeping entire settlements under the sea. To protect against this threat, it is vital that we construct dikes facing outwards against the sea and continue in our efforts to rebuild what has been lost.”

6. Ecclesiastical Order: -1 national unrest
“Many religious orders exist within our territories, dutifully serving their god and helping to guide our peoples to live their lives in accordance to the lords teachings.”

7. Free Farmers: +10% Goods produced modifier
"The farmers of Dithmarschen are not bound to give the product of their labour and toil to petty lords. This allows our peoples to use the extra produce saved for other purposes.

Ambitions: +0.5 yearly republican tradition

Notes about the NI=
  • Shepard is a biblical reference, inline with the highly religious background of the area. The hired hands (also part of this reference) is largely noting the mercenary soldiers that have been sent against them in wars.
  • I would justify having 2 NI's with 2 idea slots as it represents the capacity of the state fairly well and both would not make them any stronger then their neighbors idea wise.

Capitol + Event

To the best of my memory, the capitol of Dithmarschen up until 1447 was Meldorf. It did change to Heide after the point so perhaps the provinces capitol could be renamed to Meldorf and an event (such as the following) could be used to simulate the name change.

# Disdain in Meldorf
country_event = {
id = flavor_dtt.1
title = flavor_dtt.1.t
desc = flavor_dtt.1.d
picture = CITY_VIEW_eventPicture

fire_only_once = yes

trigger = {
tag = DTT
is_year = 1447
num_of_cities = 1
owns_core_province = 4141 #Dithmarchen
}

mean_time_to_happen = {
months = 6
}

option = {
name = flavor_dtt.1.a #Auf Der Heide!
ai_chance = { factor = 90 }
4141 = {
rename_capital = "Heide"
add_building = temple
}
}

option = {
name = flavor_dtt.1.b #Tradition trumps such squabbles
ai_chance = { factor = 10 }
add_adm_power = 25
add_dip_power = 25
add_mil_power = 25
add_stability = -1
}
}
