Count Guillaume was a loving father of nine children in a small poor county on the border to France. As the county was fairly week he needed to have allies.
Guillaume was very concerned about his children and set out on a tour throughout the empire to marry his children to wealthy spouses.
To test his ground as a career marriage broker he started with his sister Sibylle.

He managed to marry her to Burchard von Neunburg(who later became duke of Sardinia) heir to count Ulrich of Neuchatel(later rebellious duke of Savoie)
At his death bed all his children were either married or betrothed:
His five daughters were married to:
Ermentrude was married to count Thierry of Verdun (also heir to the county of Sundgau)
Berthe was married to Rudolf von Lenzburg Spymaster and heir of the Duchy of Thüringa
Gisele was married to Aymon de Genéve Heir to the county of Geneva
Clemence was betrothed to Giselbert von Luxemburg Heir to the Duchy of Luxembourg
Sibylle was betrothed to Amédée the rebellious former Duke of Savoie currently Count of Savoie imprisoned after his failed independence war.
His four sons:
Renaud is married to his cousin Ainés de Poitou daughter of Duke Guilhém of Aquitaine
Hugues is married to Bertha Florisdocther (daughter to Duke Floris of Holland)
Guy is betrothed to Ida von Habsburg sister to Duke Otto I of Osterich
Étienne is betrothed to countess Elisabeth of Innsbruck
Throughout the Guillaumes reign his allied Duke of Savoie rebelled twice towards the emperor and even though he both his sister(daughter in law to Duke Ulrich I first duke who rebelled) and youngest daughter(betrothed to Duke Amédée who started the second Independence war) was married into the families fighting the independency war Guillaume stayed neutral (maybe for the best as the emperor crushed the rebels quite easily)

But even though being that inactive his son in law favored him as a candidate to take of the duchy of Savoie

For over 12 years his chancellor Baron Jaufré worked trying to provoke a claim on the county of Aargau the only non-allied neighbor within his duchy, but it was done in vain. So instead of conducting any wars all money have been spent on building a wooden Palisade and creating a Castle village.
Now the crown has passed
To the eldest son, let’s see if he can utilize the alliances his father setup or if he have some other plans for the county of Bourgogne
