I've wanted to try pleasure seekers in 4.0, but the tooltip seems to imply i would be forced to use the lifestyle and lose the bonuses if I use utopian abundance. i really like roleplaying equality, so i'd rather not give up utopian abundance, will the build lose its benefits with utopian abundance?

Yes pleasure seakers use a different lifestyle then Utopian abundance, they will no longer be hedonists. Decadent Lifestyle is focused on helping only the ruling/privileged class live in luxury.

You still retain this though

  • Mod pop growth speed.png +1% Pop growth or assembly speed
    per 100 Entertainer Entertainers
  • Amenities.png +5 Amenities per 100 Servants

I mean, not necessarily, even workers on DL have the same CG upkeep as Social Welfare, although elites do receive more in proportion. Relative to most living standards, specialists and workers under DL are living very good.

still wish they didn't double down on making pleasure seekers explicitly about inequality, it used to be that i could at least give up the servants buff but still keep all the important buffs from it, while using utopian abundance. utopian abundant hedonists seems like a thing that would be very thematic. with 4.0, they have an even more important buff from hedonist civilians, and it's explicitly removed if you implement equality :(

The main thing is civilians are no longer hedonists when you change over.
Is it? Last time I played, Civilians would be Hedonists regardless of Living Standard. The only thing that would change if you gave them anything other than Decadent Lifestyle was that they would lose their +1% Pop Growth per any 100 of them.

that's like going from a knights of the toxic god habitat to a normal habitat, in terms of power level loss. like the civic just is not at all worth it if you're ONLY going to be getting a popgrowth bonus from your entertainers instead of from hedonists too. which was an issue with the pre 4.0 civic, where having an entertainment ecu was literally the only way to make the civic powerful. whereas with the new civic, you can make any planet into a popgrowth powerhouse, but not if you go utopian abundant.
