So does anyone actually use recipes to forge artifacts? The level of fiddling and micromanagement required to do it seems massive and annoying. Has anyone made any powerful artifacts this way? Was it worth it? Because my eyes glaze over just thinking about doing it.

The micromanagement doesn't bother me, but by the time you're able to make the items, you've already acquired ones just as good.
